They will claim all kind of things, as I said, 3 other clubs (Athletic / Espanyol / Villareal ) has players in the same case as Cheryshev and none called them up because they knew (either received the info or asked for it, same), Real Madrid can only blame themselves.

No excuse really, be interesting to see what corruption can keep them in the competition. In 2014 Legia Warsaw fielded an ineligible player in a Champions League qualifier against Celtic which they actually won 6-1 on aggregate, they got kicked out and Celtic put through.
