Yes, they had a "motive". When it's not renovations of the stadium, it's a concert. Refusing just for rivalry is petty, and it wouldn't look good. It's not just because of that, anyway. Floper is still mad at the stunt gaspart played, and probably fears it could be done again. Barça played many finals in chamartin and in the bernaleo, before the 97 incident. And rm also played finals in the camp nou.

Last year they claimed they had already rented the balconies for summer parties or something. Year before they were remodeling the bathrooms. This year they have a concert moved up to that date.

The issue is not that they do not want to give up their stadium, even though if you participate in the competition then IMO you should make your stadium available regardless of who goes to final, the issue is all the scheming and excuse making when they should flat out say "hey, we don't want Barca to potentially celebrate in our building" and be done with it. They're gonna catch criticism for being losers, but that's their right to refuse their stadium. However excuse making and scheming when the reason is beyond transparent makes them look worse.

whether that's true or not i don't know, but i remember ancelotti being reported as prioritizing CL after the clasico loss (and 10 games remaining) and we all know how down to the wire the title race got..I couldn't even look at the screen when valencia had to hold onto that 2-2 at the bernabeu for the last 15 mins.

i expect them to put up similar resistance this season as well
