What brilliant substitutions by Pep!!! He actually got them right! Fine, the Puyol one was one of necessity. But he brought on two youth players for two slightly tired players, he started the match with a well-rotated squad in the first place as well. And nobody played only 5 minutes. Great stuff.

Why he can`t finally realize that putting Iniesta on wing is a waste of his talent, and that combination between 2 tall DM-s don`t work! Just play Xavi - Iniesta midfield finally. :s

i know what u're talking about but there was a time when he used to play lot better in the wings than alongside xavi. but it was long before.

Busi/Yaya did work many times before. Problem is they decided to share the off-day in the same match.

Heroes also have heroes

Vanessa Forns

Before FC Barcelona's 2-1 home win over Màlaga last Saturday Blaugrana manager Josep Guardiola showed his players part of a TV report from the Canal + programme Informe Robinson (The Robinson Report).
This relates the heroic but failed attempt to rescue Spanish mountaineer Iñaki Ochoa, who died just short of the summit of the 8091 metre-high Annapurna in the Hymalayas in May 2008.

Iñaki’s brother Pablo expressed his wholehearted approval when he learned that the report, which chronicles how 14 people put their lives at risk in the rescue attempt, was used by Guardiola to transmit values of comradeship and commitment. Only last month Pablo and his two brothers met Barça players and staff at the club’s training comlex in a visit that was instigated by Guardiola himself after he had seen the report. In an exclusive statement for www.fcbarcelona.cat Pablo said, “We’re delighted that the Barça coach thinks this story can be an example. Heroes also have heroes, and people who are examples find examples to follow, too.”

Guardiola’s talent

He went on to suggest that Guardiola’s decison to show the report to the players was no more than “another demonstration of his intelligence” as the Blaugrana manager recognised the parallels between a group of people risking their lives with the requirements of a football team. “It’s a matter of commitment to your team mates. Pep’s talent was in seeing this link. Any coach could have seen it, but he was the one who did.”

Everyone in his position

Developing this theme, Pablo saw a connection between the team of people who tried to save his brother’s life and a team of footballers. In an emotional statement he said, “In the video you can see perfectly how in the rescue team everyone has his position. The doctor is where he should be, the best climber was on the front line going at top speed, just like a full-back or forward in football. In one case you’re playng for three points in La Liga or the Champions League ... and in the other they were tryng to save the life of my brother, an extraordinary man who admired people from the world of sport and who followed Barça.”

Pablo finished by expressing the wish that the publicity afforded to this story will help the SOS Hymala Foundation, a charitable organisation that was set up by his late brother.

What a legend, what a motivator, he can get a team together like no other. He may not have the best substitutions nor the best eye for a transfer (perhaps), but he embodies the soul of this club, he is a professional, he has experience, and he knows how to create a team out of individuals. When Barca manage to stay at 0-1 before heading off the pitch for the half time break, I feel a renewed optimism and a huge relief, because I know that Pep knows how to turn things around and make things work.

Apparently, reason for Pep´s expulsion is that he came inches away from the 4th ref`s face and yelled at him.

I have a couple questions about Pep...mostly with his eye for talent (Did he really insist on spending our transfer budget on Ibra and Chyga, who both didn't fit with last years style of play? Hleb, really?) and his refusal to deal with arrogant characters even if they produce in a team setting (Eto'o and Yaya)

I'm not losing faith in him, but where is the coach from last season?

He needs to drop the 4-4-2.

Yeah.

he is doing some questionable thing at the moment, tinkering with the formation, and favouring busquets.
