How is what Chelsea did any different than what Real did against Bayern? They had less than 30% possession and relied on counter to get their goals....The only difference is that Chelsea have more people behind the ball but it doesn't stop their attacking players from countering when they have the ball...They just go back to defending when they don't have possession instead of waiting around for someone else to get it.......

Chelsea played away from home and scored two goals. Real played home and scored only one.

Real didn't strictly have to focus on defending the score and they didn't do so, they regularly tried to get out on the break. Not like Chelsea did after they scored. Plus it's bound to happen when you play against them. It's what they're great at. Nor is Liverpool anywhere near as good of a ball dominant team.

The problem isn't the bus parking, while I find it boring and cowardly it's still a valid tactic and it clearly works for them. Comparing it to diving as a tactic is silly, since diving is against the rules. There are no rules that say that you can't put 11 men in front of the goal.

What sucks about this, aside from me being a Liverpool fan, is the fact that money is prevailing yet again. Mou was able to field his "weakened" side, which is still a formidable one that would do quite well on its own. All because of Chelsea's bottomless pits of money. Meanwhile Liverpool have built a winning team based on tradition, hard work and great coaching. Modern football is disgusting.

Madrid went out with an offensive lineup and tried to play when they could. The game developed like it did because Bayern are good at keeping possession. Madrid did not try to defend with 10 behind the ball and just limit their "play" to destroying and waiting for mistakes.

Nice comment, I agree with it. But in the end, I think that mistake from Gerrard proved to be costly. A draw favoured Liverpool, they should have played keeping that in mind. They conceded a cheap goal, and that was what killed them in the end.

They messed up. The 0-0 was a good result for them. No need to go all attack against an experienced Chelsea side.

Thank god for modern football. You'd prefer times when smokers and drug addicts could be footballers?

Actually, say hypothetically a team were from KO to all converge on their own goal-line, with all 10 outfield players plus the GK and just stand there. The referee would first call the Captain and warn him and if it continued the game would be abandoned and the points awarded to the opposing team.

How do they define that rule, though? The only counter to a parked bus is an even better bus plus a good counter attack. Atletico will show this on Wednesday.

You can't legislate for an individual error like the one that Gerrard made. Liverpool had won 11 games on the bounce playing the same way. Why would they change a winning formula and play within themselves?

They could have played defensive and still lost. Defending isn't one of Liverpool's strengths. Attack was their best form of defence.
