Most likely a massive points deduction. Perhaps they should be docked -30 points at the start of the season for every season they broke the rules.

In what way is a club inflating sponsorships and/or making under the table payments to staff the same as a club selling off future assets?

One is cheating on income the other is a short term gain for club that they pay back every penny and more while it was sanctioned by the league and broke no rules.

The reports say they were cooking the salary cap applications (please note, not actually cooking the books).. One example, paying a manager (not Pep) one wage calculated for the Cap, but the actual wage being much higher.

It comes down to how much you value the idea of a salary cap in football.

That said people often do need to separate cheating to get ahead from actual level. Players they have will have earned their titles and shouldn't be begrudged them. They're not doing anything morally wrong other than perhaps exploiting opportunity. Hardly a stack of Lance Armstrongs. Can be criticised on Pep grounds but hardly issue to be part of a cheating organisation.

The buyer of those future assets wasn't a made up company created by Barca. It was a real investment group with a totally legal deal which was filed with the correct figures.

Not sure how selling your own assets to another real company is the same as creating fake betting companies that don't exist from Saudi Arabia to invest in yourself.

Barca have taken income now that they will have to pay back and more. All while all above board and agreed by the league.
