The fk against Portsmouth was insane too, the ball fell like a stone but i dont understand why many ppl say its his best fk ever, the one against Atletico is better imo
scored another very nice fk in December 2012 again against Atletico 😬

Definitely dude but its more a ego thing, he wants to prove that he can still do knuckleball technique. For example against Spain in WC18 or against Sporting lissabon in 2016 he scored 2 outstanding curveball fks ☄️🔥

Fun fact: I was also able to do the knuckeball technique for a few months when i trained it nearly every day in my young days but i noticed fast that if you dont train this technique regularly you will 'forget' it, endlevel hard technique⚽️
Class that you learned it - I know you said you played at a fairly high level.

With me, I take free-kicks, but I never use the knuckleball technique, just not my style. Prefer Beckham's inside of the foot approach - you get more control of the ball and accuracy with that. I like to whip the ball.

Bend it like Beckham ⚽️🔥

I remember scoring a fk with that technique, i hit the ball perfectly, was a bit luck tbh, but that curve was really perfect, it's a pity that there are no camera which film these goals 🥲

Nice one.

Yeah I have always said I wish a lot more of my games, training etc were filmed. I do have a couple of videos though. One of a solo goal I scored in the final of a 5 a side tournament in 2013 (though we lost 2-1, I believe my goal was the equaliser) but obviously I won't upload it here. Ball was sent up the pitch, our goal hanger striker took a shot but it deflected into the corner. He chased it down and played it down the line to me after I called on it. I used two quick touches to go between two men, got to the ball before the third, and then finished on my weaker left foot while facing at a 90 degree angle from goal. Tbh one of the guys for the first put in a pretty weak challenge but it was still a good goal.

I have scored a lot better and played a lot better but I do like that I have that goal on my computer.

Beckham is criminally underrated by modern Football fans due to his global celebrity status.

Brilliant player. Best crosser ever. Second best set piece taker ever after Juninho. Great passing range and shooting ability. Very hardworking. One of the very few United legends I like.
I think he's underrated by modern fans who resent his celebrity status, and overrated by celebrity worshippers who think he's one of the best players of all time.

I would slightly disagree on the passing range - he did have a great long pass, but sometimes his long passes got cut out, and he played too many Hollywood balls for England. Him and Gerrard. They never played short enough.

But he was a very good player and likely world-class in his prime. I do feel though that his career peaked between 1998 and 2001. He was truly excellent for Man United in those seasons.

There's a few who could be better set piece takers too. Koeman, Rivelino, Mijhailovic etc. But yeah, Beckham is near the top of the best ever.

The world knew he would score that last minute freekick against George Clooney.

I was irate when Greece conceeded it. But at the same time, that game made me realize that that Greek team were go places. They were much better than England that day.

They ended up winning the next Euro.

Genuinely not having a go...but I know how into looks and 'alpha males' you are - are you maybe into Beckham also because he was said to be so handsome and glamorous? Lol. It's a genuine question.

As a person he's quite awful. The email scandal, the Royal sycophancy, the selling out to Qatar after pretending to be a gay ally. And with his attention-seeking he's just one of the poster boys for the celebrity culture worship that goes on in modern society.

But I am not slagging him as a player. Like I say, he was world-class, at least at United.

Fair. In his peak, he was a top 10 player in the world. Also finished second in the BdOr podium.

Not a skill issue at all with Gerrard and Beckham. I'd put that down to decision making and main character syndrome on the pitch? Both Gerrard and Beckham always wanted to be the hero I guess. Both of them did have the best long passes in England after Scholes though.

I know you're not a fan of YouTube videos, but here's a delightful compilation of Beckham's passing range in his AC Milan days.

Sounds nice, dont be shy to upload it here, you could upgrade to 'Davie the defender destroyer' with that goal 🥸

But videos have also a side effect, i made a lot of dives in penalty box to get a pen, wouldnt look good on videos 🤔

Yes, never disputed he could play an excellent long pass. I just remember him overusing it because of - as you say - main character flashy syndrome on the pitch.

Beckham maybe had an even better long pass than Scholes, tbh. Most of Scholes were long diagonals to the wing, crossfields. Whereas Beckham - when he got it right - could cut a team in half with a long ball right down the pitch.

I do tend to prefer short passing myself, but as I got older I became quite good at playing 30/40 yard balls. So I see the value in much of that. I just remember Beckham spamming it a bit, more so for England because he wasn't reined in there.

And yes, that video is very good having skimmed it.

I'm not into "alpha males" at all. Find it extremely cringe and try-hard.

I posted a few Andrew Tate clips here just for fun and discussion.

About Beckham, I am not a fan but I just genuinely liked his game and think he's underrated these days. Genuinely don't have an opinion on his personal life and choices because I don't care enough about him. His looks are overrated imo.

By alpha males I just meant you seem to admire guys whose looks you rate, that's all.

Fair enough, I was expecting you to say something like 'David Beckham was incredibly handsome but he was still an excellent player'.

You have taken me by surprise by having no interest in him personally, in a pleasant way. I agree his looks were and are overrated. A decent enough looking guy but certainly didn't warrant being put on Brad Pitt levels or anything like that.

The guy is a cock though. Like I say though he was a very good player.

I asked my Portuguese mate about Beckham, he said this. I think this backs up what was said earlier - people think Beckham is being rated as one of the best players ever. That's not the case though. Maybe that's why he gets underrated as an attempt to 'restore balance', a pushback:

'He was definitely good but not a top 20 all time. Hell no. I also think it's unfair that he's one of the most famous players ever. Someone like Figo or Xavi deserve to be more famous than Beckham imo'

My reply:

'I agree they deserve to be much more famous. I don't think anyone with a clue about football puts him top 20 of all time tbh, probably not even top 200 of all time. He was a world-class player in his prime, though.'
