Quique Setien

Lol, Messi is not a better manager than Setien because he is not a manager at all.. Such a logical void this statement. We've all seen what Maradona can do as a manager, even though he is one of the greatest players of all time.

Messi would probably be a terrible manager. I doubt he'll even become one at all.

Yup. THE essential ingredients of being a great manager are leadership, man-management, and vision.

More often than not, all time greats lack these attributes. The only exceptions I've seen are Cruyff, Kaiser, and ZZ, and all were generals on the field. Maybe Xavi will be one of these one day.

Messi doesn't have these attributes. Hell, Maradona had some of these attributes but was a train wreck as a manager.

Yeah they have got better and this season EV was a disaster and should have been gone in summer.

Yeah. Setien taking over halfway was risky and hasn’t paid off. But the guys on here saying we’d have done better with Valverde this season need a reality check.

Be as well getting rid of him now as Barca have no chance in La Liga with him.

It at least gives Pimienta time to try and build something for CL at least.

Wont happen and he will be sacked in a few weeks then Pimienta thrown to lions in CL with no time to implement anything.

If Barcelona don't beat Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, Quique Setien will get the sack. [cat radio]

Setien isn't good enough but man this club are a disgrace.

Valverde gets cucked x2 in the CL on the biggest of stages and we STILL keep him on. why? because Messi and his bumboys don't have to train as hard.

We pretty much force Arthur, a 23 year old with potential, to leave, signing another OAP whilst Rakitic is still fucking here. sure lets be ruthless with players who might make a difference but gotta tread carefully with these seniors right?

can't wait to see what midtable slave.. i mean manager, they decide to replace him with

Either way, a guy like Pimienta who's a B team coach and will be a caretaker manager wouldn't be afforded any real opportunity to "build something" anyway. Guys like this have virtually no power even at other clubs, let alone Club de Amigos FC Barcelona.

He will basically oversee the day to day operations/training sessions and the team will conduct themselves on an autopilot. They settle into a lull of a comfort zone, he won't be a real leader. Not that he'd be a good one if given the chance, but he won't have that kind of sway anyway.

Not opposed to Setien getting the sack, but it should be at the season's end. I said it about Valverde and the the same principle applies with QS. Setien has been underwhelming thus far, but I don't see the reason to prematurely remove him from his post.

I doubt Pimienta is any better. He is even less qualified.

Sacking multiple managers mid-season sends a terrible message to good prospective coaches that may become more hesitant to join knowing the club is in crisis and so trigger-happy.

ayaiiiii not gonna lie, I would've benched him for that! Setien and Sarabia are zen monks for not losing their cool there :innocent:

Benching Messi here sends the smart message

Don't mess with Sheitan

Dont agree and have seen players over a short term react to a new coach when they have rebelled against the previous one.

Almost buy in more and lift game as have a point to prove.

It gives Pimienta time to try things. See how much sway he has to try and implement ideas and how receptive squad may be.

There is nothing at all to be gained to go on autopilot with Setien until he is sacked and give Pimentia as little time as possible.

We saw that kind of resurgence in motivation when Zidane came to RM (both times) but that's the kind of case where the players have a notable degree of respect for the coach coming in. Don't know if they can break out of their disillusion seeing a B team guy who they don't know come in and take over.

Maybe if it was someone like Lucho returning, they'd be galvanized in a significant way.

I agree though that it's way better to sack Setien now and give Pimienta some time than to delay it until right before CL. I just don't know if Pimienta can put the team in the right state of mind given all the toxicity at the club that exists at every level.

The players are closer to the situation and see the fire better than we do. They've seen how aimless we've been in handling EV and Setien, how Abidal is on the verge of getting sacked, how several board members have been resigning this past year. The situation is bad at all levels and they are probably entrenched deeply in their lackluster attitude.

Even though a lot of this dysfunction is of their own making, they too probably need to see good leadership or potentially inspiring decisions to be uplifted into trying harder.

What is the alternative?

Just leave Setien until after CL when it is clear will fail or try something different and give it time? At point need to take a risk and try to increase chances no matter how slim are either way.

I dont think Pimienta in himself would be the motivating factor but the players may buy in to him short term to prove a point about Setien.

Man Utd players did same with Solskjaer.

It is no lose really as Barca are fucked the way things stand anyway.
