Raphael Varane

His last few years in Madrid were shocking.. he sunk them a couple of times in the CL.

Him being a top CB is purely based on reputation right now. He's still young though, so there's hope.

At one moment a Varane-Umtiti CB pairing looked like the best in the world. How things change in just a coupe of years.

Testament how much of a fulfilled life Madrid gave that generation of players and why so many find it so difficult to play consistently in the league

Him winning the World Cup at 25, and being injury prone make it more appealing to retire tbh.
France has a great generation of defenders too.
He is same age as Totti when he retired for example.

Could see him retiring. Already won it all and doesn't seem really have the drive to keep playing like a Ramos or Puyol who both also won it all but played until mid/late 30s.

You almost want to say he never reached his full potential but his trophy cabinet says otherwise. Still imo, there is something super underwhelming about him.
