Improvement can be done. All they need to do is tell all refs to whistle at every contact that happens. They CAN do it every time if they want to, it's just that things are left for the referee's own reading of the game. Sometimes, if he gave a team a penalty and then after that in ten minutes a contact like Di Maria's one yesterday was made, he wouldn't give them another penalty, things can simply be made to follow one standard instead of referee thinking and concluding on his own. I'm not talking about referee mistakes here, I'm talking about respecting the rules of football to the fullest. Fairness achieved in the bigger picture as you are saying is doubtful and is not true fairness.
I mean let's take yesterday's penalty for Di Maria, the referee might have thought "Madrid deserved this", but what does deserved really mean here ? Do all deserved teams have to win or have advantage anyway ? Why isn't there a strict rule that doesn't allow any loopholes of subjectivity in this case?

And over the 38 games, the top of the league stands a deserved champion with all matters evening out.

Subjectivity, objectivity, that is not something you or I, or Fifa or any federation in Europe can do anything about. It is part of the game, losing sleep or feeling bitter won't change it. First it was brutal tackling and Fifa clamped down, then came match fixing and investigations were made to clean out the game, then came diving and and referees are singling out players and taking note, god knows what the next 20 years will bring, but footballers, managers and these institutions are cunning and will resort to anything to win. We are already seeing the game become a fat chapter in the major of economics.

9 times out of ten, teams and fans alike will blame the referee for blowing too early, too late, having raised a flag, flashed a card, yada yada yada when it is them who did not finish off a game when they had the chance, did not make the right substitutions, or took their foot off the peddle.

Fact is, the moment you give a referee to make a decision is the moment you signed your life away. Don't cry when it is not your favor. Football, like life, is all about inches. Had Messi curled the ball a little wider, Julio Cesar wouldn't have made the save and Barcelona would have won the CL without any controversy. Had Drogba stabbed in one of those chances against Valdez, he wouldn't have been dragged out while shouting Disgrace to the cameras. Had Pippo Inzaghi never been let through the defense, Inter would have not been outsted from the CL semi final and restored some glory before the scandal. Had Ronaldo scored against Lazio, May 5 would have been a joyous day instead of a nightmare. Had Barcelona not fallen asleep against Betis, Madrid would have went 4 seasons without a trophy and ended Capello's superiority. Had Higuain placed the ball less than an inch to the right, Lyon would have never advanced to the round of 8 and Madrid would have broken the curse. Spain made life difficult for them against Korea before they have been wrongly disallowed a goal, so did Italy when they subbed out Del Pierro with half an hour to go.

Referees mistakes or not, teams bring demise to their door steps before referees make a bad call. It is up to you to come to terms with that or choose to be a bitter fan and blame the referees.

It wasn't the referee's fault when Real Madrid got trashed 4-0 by Liverpool because the referee didn't give Pepe a foul, it is because Real Madrid were shit. It wasn't the referee's fault for keeping Madrid in the run when Capello was in charge, Barcelona made sure they lost the league, etc...

There is an old saying and it goes something like this "the table never lies". It really never does.
Great post Raed. We all know it's like this but we won't admit it.

anyway hoping an easy Madrid win in CL this week. I hope they don't play their second team with the Classico coming. I know Mourinho likes to win and keep the confidence high but he would also be looking to take precautions before what might be the most important game in the season.

It's funny to diss long shitty posts like that. But don't do that with posts from raed. Ever.

while it is a good post most of the people don't give a shit here anyway, i can see he's trying to inform people but this won't stop the complaints from fans on the refs etc, people get angry about these things it's just how it goes, go with the flow :p

i think that's very hard to do, to make something this complex and have one rule that pwns the matter at hand completely isn't that easily achieved...
