I was under the impression that England was Capello's last job before retirement

You have a problem CREATING goals against good teams. This year, so far, the results against "equals" are:

Sevilla 2 - Real madrid 1
Barcelona 1- Real madrid 0
Real madrid 3 - Sevilla 2 (exception)
Real madrid 2 - milan 3
Milan 1 - Real madrid 1
Lyon 1 - Real madrid 0
Real madrid 1 - lyon 1
Real madrid 0 - Barcelona 2

In 8 matches against direct rivals, you've scored 8 goals and allowed 13. How can a 1 goal per important match ratio get you anywhere? Real Madrid are severely lacking in the creativity department cause, against an organized deference and a strong attack (Cl rivals and Liga top 3), scoring 1 goal per match is simply not enough.

PD. This is Cr96's 5th scoreless match against barcelona. Choker... :flagvl8:

As kevin said add Valencia as well to the exceptions , it's not just about the creative department we have that but they are utilized badly , i put the lack of mental strength on the same level as creating chances
most of the names we could beat in any given Sunday but we failed in the occasion because it was big occasion and there was no belief they could win /overturn .
the lack of leadership is evident and the tactical indifferent is hurting us .

I don't even think Del Bosque (who's management style somehow similar to Manuel ) could do better , Vicente had leaders on & off the pitch .

anyhow Perez had a long meeting with Valdano and if what is leaked is true there will be less signing but a definite change in the managerial position with Mourinho name leaked as front runner for the post , also Perez said he don't want to see a melt down like last season post Classico .
Valdano met with the some of the leaders of the team including CR and talked to them followed by a meeting with Pellegrini in which the message of " it will be hard to continue next season if the team don't win the liga this season " was given

Not only leadership , I am sure Pellegrini for some reasons , is unable to motivate the squad . I mean it doesn`t fit with his attitde wither , looking at him last night , when he was sitting on the dug out , it felt like he is suffering from blood cancer or something ! I believe if it was Mourinho , it would have been lot harder really . but guess , it(El Clasico) has been against best players till now so to say ( Messi-CR9) , we have to wait for Mourinho`s arrival......

The situation is muhc different to post-clasico of last year when we went 7 pts ahead with 4 matches left, virtually ending the championship. For me, its still a 50-50 thing today. The RM players should still be seeing their chances with 7 matches remaining and be fully motivated to go an a 7 win streak. And it could really be enough considering we play Sevilla, Villareal and Espanyol away. Getting two draws in these games is far from impossible as we also still play in the CL and have a full 2-matches-per-week schedule.

we have tough games but Madrid also do. Valencia at home and Mallorca away as far as I can remember (theres also Almeria away which might be tricky for them). our games are tougher but we are mentally stronger than them now. it's more of a mental thing now than the quality of the side thing. remember the game Madrid played after Lyon knocked them out (against Valladolid) Madrid won it 1-4 but they didn't look inspired or motivated at all. that might be the case with them now. just like last season at the end were Madrid lost games for fun, they wouldve won these games if we didnt mentally destroy them in the so-dubbed "title decider" match. its definitely not 50-50. the league is ours to lose.

Yep i agree with you fully

here is what Balague had to say after the game

As the press clamoured to interview Cristiano Ronaldo after Saturday’s Classico, the Portuguese spotted Barcelona goalscorer Pedro making a quiet exit.

“Why so much rush to get to me? I’m not the star, he is,” said Cristiano, pointing out the winger.

It’s incredible that this youngster – who only two years ago was playing in the equivalent of League Two – can outshine the world’s best players in a game between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Ronaldo was only half joking, but he also exposed the painful truth highlighted by Madrid’s defeat at the Bernabeu – there’s no way he can be considered the best player in the world without a team that protects him and gives him a platform to shine.

Or, I might add, without a manager who tells him to play for the team as much as for his own stats. Barcelona imposed their style and philosophy on Madrid, who variously blamed defeat on anxiety, inferior quality and insufficient time to let the new project develop.

So what next? Pellegrini will go and they will bring in new players – Perez wants Silva, Fabregas and Ribery – and a new manager.

The Madrid president has reservations over the names suggested by his advisors: Jose Mourinho, Laurent Blanc and Rafa Benitez. Mourinho is a manager that will command the limelight while Benitez has a style he doesn’t like. Blanc has something of Guardiola about him and lacks the experience of such a big club.

On paper it's possible , realistically i have huge doubts especially that we also have Valencia and Mallorca

Meh, Valencias away form has been woeful lately and Mallorca are most definitely beatable. That said, I do think that Real will drop points before the end of the season, possibly against an awkward Almeria side this week.

If you want to see Los Blancos survive my dear Beasty , start campaigning against Rafa in front of SA . my god... Even it will hurt BARCA for sure ! :D

I have no doubt Rafa will not be picked no matter how much Eddie and Balague will campaign for him .
Valdano can't stand his tactics and he call the shots

it's actually quite shocking how this team - and its players - is unable to perform when they have to. the big and decisive diffrence against barca was IMO, that players like xavi & messi do perform they they are expected to and have to. simply put, barca has players they can rely on in crucial matches, whereas real doesn't (or the lack of leaders like you called it). sure, one certainly will find answers/reasons/excuses/whatever that will "explain" why higuain doesn't score when he has to, why cristianos efforts were fruitless, why VDV missed that one on one etc...but in the end, that doesn't change the fact that this real team lacks players you can rely on getting the job done when it's needed.

i'm still against sacking pellegrini tbh. reason is, that i don't "want" any short term solution for some quick - if that - success. none of these so called winners are long term solutions:

- mourinho is a flip flopper...he'd win titles with real in one year and go back to the EPL or enherit guardiolas barca job at the end of the very same year.
- capello is already heading for his retirement, he said so himself. even if he changed his mind, it's not gonna be for a long run at madrid.
- benitez is not the same as before, he somewhat lost it. it would only be a matter of 1 season - if he can last that long - before he gets sacked.

so in the end, you'll end up looking for a coach again. that's got to be unhealthy in the persue of stability within the club.

Manuel demonstrated he is too passive in crucial games , i'm all for giving him the sack .

if you can't beat Alco in the copa, Lyon in the CL u are the wrong man for the job and that's it

Stability is with a manager who can add to the team , so far he didn't add anything

you can say the exact same thing about the players!!! if these players can't beat alco, or lyon and can't even show any sort of gameplay against barca - instead running around like headless chickens - then you have the wrong players in order to achieve the goals you aim for. the standards at a club like real madrid are very high - you know that better than i do - but lots of players currently don't or can't at all life up to that standard. you might add the coach as well, but in the end, the coach can only work with what he's given.

i think pellegrini has been let down by the players in those big games where they needed to perform. it's a mental and an ability thing with the players...watch higuain score a brace or a hattrick again in the next game for example - like after lyon.

Nope

a team is like an orchestra , players are like musicians with a bad conductor you will hear crap
with a great conductor you will hear good music

Nándor

New member
agreed...however - sticking with your example – one crap muscian playing wrong can ruin the whole harmony of the music. therefore it requires/implies a certain standard of quality from each musician. a standard of quality that is up to the standard the maestro wants them to sound. otherwise, if you have crap musicians, all the maestro can do is make them sound as less crap as possible. but that doesn't necessarly mean the end product is worth listening.

another example...put michael schumacher in a fiat cinquecento. he'll certainly drive that thing better than most other drivers and get the best possible results out of that car. but he won't be able to perform with it or drive as quick as he could with a ferrari. so, if you want him to deliver "ferrari-like" results, give him a ferrari instead of a fiat cinquecento.

i'm not saying pellegrini is not at all at fault!!! but these examples show that in order to work, there must be a certain balance in quality between the quality of the coach - maestro/driver - and the players - musicians/car. that balance is what's missing and what should be worked on IMO.

One of Real's problems is that (with the exception of an in-form Kaka) they don't have a world class midfielder. Alonso is good but no at the top level, Gago is crap, L Diarra is a destructive player and van der Vaart is OK but Sneijder and Robben are lots better.
