No , admired but not labeled greatest .. the Inter side of the 60's was called Grande Inter based on their defensive solid tactics ..the French team that won the WC/Euro/Cont cup..not mouth watering football but one of the greatest sides to grace the football pitch ..Zidane + 10 in most parts same for Argentina in 86...
the United side last couple of years will surely be remembered as one of their best sides ever in their league

without trophies you will be remembered vaguely by those who watched football .. like the Denmark side of WC 1986 .. brilliant but people remember the weaker Dane's who won the Euro more

With a few exeptions (Cruyff Holland, for example) you do need silverware to be remembered, but to be amont the greatest of all time (in the world, not in the league) you do need good football to be remembered. People will always remember Brazil winning the world cup but only a few will remember italy 2006, a lot will remember france winning Euro, no one remembers Greece. Its nearly impossible to be great without trophies, but winning trophies without great football rarely qualifies as "greatest side of all time"

to be honest Im not so bitter about all the wrong calls that Barca got against Inter basically because Inter deserved it more than us. but to say they deserved it "by far" is a little bit going over the top

Gnegneri

immaculately conceived
overall Inter were deserved winners by far
Doesn't mean they could have lost if there was a competent ref. And they had.

But that's part of football and what makes it so surprising.

I'm also not complaining by the way, just thinking Mourinho's praise is a bit over the top caue it wasn't so clear a victory as it is made out to be.

Beauty in the eyes of the beholder Gilbert , these are calls from your personal point of view as a cule.. overall Inter were deserved winners by far

Do we agree Milito's 3rd goal was offside?
Do we agree Bojan's goal was not a handball by Toure?

If you answer yes to one of these two, barcelona scored enough to go through.

stop arguing with ward, it's a waste of time.

he's a contrary twat and a wind-up merchant.

beast, you're spot-on that you must win trophies, but I think what gneg had in mind was that beautiful teams are remembered fondly by a few (brazil '82, holland '74, hungary '54, etc.) winning teams are generally remembered by the masses, regardless of the style in which they played (la grande inter being BY FAR the best example). BUT if you can combine the two and win in style then you are absolutely immortal. brazil '58-'70, reial madrid '55-'60, ajax '71-'74, the dream team, milan '88-'91... even if it's a shorter success; like celtic '67, united '68, argentina '86, if you win in style... no one will forget you. ever.

(in fact argentina '86 is an acute example of how much impact winning in style can have, because really that team's immortality has come from two performances and four goals by one man in the quarter and semi-finals).

winning in style... with flair, with imagination... is by the far the best way to be remembered and loved by everyone. and regardless of the opinions of others, it's also just the way way to play the game, the right spirit. you have to play like that, IMO. otherwise you're just a bunch of men chasing a ball around, y'know?

Cruyff & the dutch based on total football & Ajax dominating the scene more than Holland as a national team ..

Did Motta deserved the red ?
if your answer is no or no to the above question than Barca didn't deserve to qualify (see Busquest for reference ) cause Inter played with 10 men cause your man cheated ..

also, before someone tells me defending is an art: I know it is. I also know that a lot of what inter did was not the art of defending.

that is man-to-man marking. true catenaccio. shutting the door in an opponent's face but doing it in a way that still requires mountains of skill and imagination. that shit is fucking beautiful. what chico did to xavi... that was beautiful. I hated it, but I admired the hell out of it. superb defending.

what mourinho does (a zonal/man hybrid bus parking thing, using bodies to fill spaces) is not praiseworthy IMO. all it does is reduce the players to forrest gumps, following instructions and not expressing themselves.

if milito hadn't have performed two moments of great individualism who knows how long the final would have gone without a goal!

So wait, an undeserved red cancels out an offside goal and a disallowed goal?

Would you have scored a goal vs 11 men Inter ? lots of If's & but's if you want to talk about what could have been .. you knew you are 3-1 down vs 10 men and you started to play in the last 15-10 minutes.. u didn't deserve to quality
