but fergie has been there for centuries now. surely, united it big enough of a club to be pressured for quality instead of nationality issues. mourinho is going united, and not city imho.

City makes more sense than United to me. Of course he has to get Madrid a trophy beforehand though which will probably take more than one season. Not that I want it to happen at all ;)

some team news...mourinho apperently changed the preseason location from ireland to the US.

the castilla players jesé rodriguez, alex fernández, mosquera & pablo sarabia are likely to do the preseason with the first team.

The issues with Mourinho are the type of football he plays and that he doesn't really give youth players much of a chance (probably the last time he did was at Porto). It was pretty much defensive at Chelsea apart from the odd game here and there i.e. the 4-3 game with barca at stamford bridge.

Alot of United fans would want him, but then there's alot who wouldn't be able to stomach the type of football his teams play. I also think the board would quickly become tired of his frequent publicity stunts. Alot of managers have respect for SAF in the premier league, i.e. he'll call up managers if they get sacked or going through difficulty. Although SAF is no saint, Jose may completely ruin the reputation of the club PR wise as well as relations with other clubs, something the board wouldn't be too happy with.

if he wins you trophies, who cares? The fans of the clubs he manages all love him (pretty much) if he brought success, he will be adored aswell.

plus, he calls SAF "Boss" no question he'll be there for me.

Have not heard much about it in the Spain press. But Milito is on his way to Madrid I think, last couple of days he flipped out with a totally overboard reaction to Inter's management comments on him. Called the club "disgusting" among other things, really looks like he is forcing a move and Mourinho himself is eager for him.

A Higuain-Milito partnership would be amazing, with Di Maria and Cronaldo on the wings.................Only Barca would have a chance to stop that.

Gio, if your theory is true, wouldn't Liverpool also be a possible stop?

but then again, the financing issues could be and probably will be a problem for him.

United goes beyond Red nose Ducky , it will be a brit you can bet your left nut

I think you misunderstood, Ducky is saying that back when SAF was hired there simply weren't foreign managers working in British football so nationality was never an issue. United won't have any qualms in appointing the best coach available to them, whatever his passport.

I agree with Gio, after fergie they want someone to follow in his traditions of bringing through the youth. Moyes is the obvious one, but we shall see.

the pressure of following on from fergie will crush moyes like a bug.

he'll get the job, but only after josé has shown united fans that there is life after fergie and the club will continue to be successful.

yes he's short-termist and such, but that's why fergie is building a young squad. plus it doesn't matter anyway, the whole point is he IS short-termist so will come in and deliver asap. then the longer project with moyes (or whoever) can begin once josé has left.

as for his modus operandi; never do the same trick twice in the same town. he's been the hero in england already. he won't do it again, what would be the point?

no, he'll go to united and succeed in The Impossible Job (that no one has held since the mid 80's! rooney was one month old ffs!) and then take over portugal and win the euros/world cup.
