meta, why do you think that ramos should be a cb?
i think his major advantage is bombing up and down the right side.

I agree...I think you take away several positive aspects of his game by moving him centrally...Of course, should Maicon be purchased, that'll be a non issue ultimately

because he has all the physical, technical and mental tools to be a world-class CB. whereas he only really has the physical tools to be a world-class RB.

the only reason he's still a RB is because no reial manager has had the sack to tell him to be a CB and aragones and del bosque have puyol to play centrally.

but discipline is another problem with him to be at cb.
anyways as long as he doesnt maximize his potential at madrid, im fine with it

Ramos has a lot more raw talent than to coach himself. He need someone to help him compose himself and set his priorities. Plus, he is so confident managers usually give him too much credit for his own good and hand him a lot of responsibilities.

I hope Mourinho makes a legend out of him.

Maicon agent confirmed on Skysport (Italia ) that Real Madrid made a formal offer for Maicon
should be settled with a yes or no in less than a week

World class signing. Plus this means Ramos as a CB so you are not only improving 1 position but 2 positions.

So the defence could be Maicon-Ramos-Pepe-Arbeloa?

That is a top class backline, though you know my thoughts on Pepe.

Arbeloa will be replaced with Kolarov if he does arrive. However if Madrid sign another centre back, say someone of Carvalho's quality, I would not be surprised if they won the Champions League or the Liga.

What is the point of signing Kolarov ? He was just above average on both ends of the pitch when I watched Serbian games. I didn't follow him in Lazio(?), but as soon as I've heard about his possible Madridcoming I've been following his appearances and I've gotta say that Coentrao would be much better option for this position. Young, at least average in defense, really good in offense, proved himself against the best team in Europe(World?) during WC, didn't deny possible transfer to Real. The only problem could be his new 5-year deal with the club and it might take a reaaaaaally big amount of cash to get him to come.

+ Arbeloa is very solid in defense (except when he faces a fast runner like Messi, but well, who can stop Messi 1 on 1?), he can't play with his left foot though and personally, for me that would not be enough to kick him out of first 11, but if people want a proper left back then so be it.
Myself I'd put someone in midfield who is all offensive and would take a load of Alvaro so he can do his job in defense, possibly Marcelo or Di Maria (even though I don't really like the idea of putting him in central-left mid).
