As long as we finish in the top 3 - (yes I mean that) it's not a disaster of a season. Giving lots of experience to Fati and Pedri at this level is worth so much, of course it depends on their progression but these could be players we see in the team for a decade. On top of that giving Dest some time to grow into the RB role would be great to see. Then we have Dembele hopefully finding his feet this season and the introduction of Trincao who is also. Just needs to stop playing Frenkie at CB right now. If these players can be given time and patience this season whilst we still fight for the league, get some respectable european result and maybe even win the copa it will be a very good season for our future.

Oh and I'd drop Griezmann to the bench until we sell him at this point. And also busquets benched.

I will say it again. Koeman is not perfect. But this team is not good enough anymore, so expectations should be lower.
We lost actually world class players, even though they were in steep decline and we play with teenagers. Messi is 34 and having the worst season of his career. We play a match every 3 days.
Everyone who wanted the veterans out ( that's me too) should have known that the drop in quality will be huge.
Top 3 in LL and last 16 in cl will be good, that's my initial expectation as I said before the season started and I stand by it.

on the flip side though you could say Koeman is making the most of what hes been given. not a defender or fan of him so far but when you look at our team.. its shocking

This is not truth.

EV in 2017-2019 had a stronger squad and more proven, at least on paper.
Messi was younger, Suarez was there, Busi was younger. You get the picture.

He played more compact defense and slower buildup to accommodate for lack of athleticism.
Our defense was much more solid most of the times but our forward game and goal scoring all depended on Messi or Suarez bailing us out time after time.

We now play younger players, we play faster and more direct at times, we create more chances but miss goals due to Messi's luck or bad finishing and because we don't have a clinical scorer like Suarez.

We have improved in the final third and in passing sequences, but are much worse in defense. Still early days, but this defense will cost us if we don't improve massively.
