I wouldn't say it's reality denial. Manager appointments are all a lottery to some degree, being a proven success somewhere else doesn't mean success and vice versa. However, there is a clear lack of alternatives available and interested right now.

Also, Depay and Wijnaldum are both his requests, so it does seem non-sensical to sack him after getting his players. Of course, it does increase the pressure on him too to deliver better results with his players.

Ah right, I'm with you. Now I've cooled off from the end of the season, I can't really see the point in getting shot of him anyway when he's only got a year left.

If we can re-introduce our jan-march form and he realizes that Pique etc are done, and that re-introducing them was the catalyst for our collapse then he's back in my good books.

I would be surprised if he got given the boot now, I guess we were holding out hope that Flick would change his mind about the National team, now he's confirmed there, I expect Koeman to stay.
