I never said he wasn't. But he's a level above everyone not named Maradona and Pele.Messi is a level above R9.

Overrated by anyone who considers him the best ever, yes. He's not top three, and if you don't go by peak he's not top 6.Phenomenal player but slightly overrated by casuals.. saying peak ronaldo is the goat and shit like that. If we are only comparing peak moments.. I have Messi and ronaldinho above ronaldo in absolute peak ( as someone who remembers football vividly since 95). Highlights hide a bit of R9 weaknesses.. he didn't use to help in defense and his passing ability was kind of basic and he was weak in the air /heading. I would have a hard time choosing between peak R9 and peak R7 though. Based on asthetics/efficiency R9 above however.
Yes, in terms of movement and anticipation and reading the game CR is goat level. But on the ball he's significantly behind many players. One thing which I do appreciate about CR7 and I think was supernatural about his game is the anticipation/future reading. It's not even about the off the ball movement (CR7 didn't move off the ball a lot like some of the very mobile, modern forwards who put in a lot of KMs. He just put the KMs in smartly like Messi), but he knew where the play would end up and which holes the defenders would leave behind.
It's an amazing skill which he developed to compensate for this (comparative) lack of ability on the ball compared to the geniuses like Messi, Maradona, Pele, R9 and co. (and a lot of others behind him in all time lists too).
This is for @Fati_Future_BallonDor to foam over, because I like the video too
This is some sharingan, read the future shit.
He's still Bumnaldo for all his antics and no he's still not the GOAT but I thought this was worth pointing out.

By the way, bit ironic to call people casuals while implying R9 couldn't pass and saying you'd find it hard to choose between R9 and R7's peak.
I have been watching football since the 80s and there's zero fucking chance peak R7 was as good as peak R9. I think you've forgotten what R9 was like.
Thanks. The photo of Henry Cavill was a bit 'incel energy' so got rid of it. Wish I could get those two closer to the centre of the photo though before uploading their faces weren't cut off)great profile pic dude, reminds me of fifa06 where i loved to play with Brazil![]()
R9 was way more transcendent player than Cr but not like Cr plays only at decent level for nearly two decades. Cr also played at top level too.Cristiano Ronaldo (and Lewy, by some) is only seen as 'better' than R9 and Ronaldinho because of superior goal stats (in a more goal-oriented era) and longevity (even though he's been finished and terrified of retirement for years now).
In terms of technical ability, genius, magic moments, ball control, passing, dribbling the pair of them piss on him from a skyscraper height.
So I guess it depends on what you value? Do you value goal stats (which include lots of stat padding and out of context) and longevity, or do you value genius and the superior beauty which the two Brazilians left us with?
I am a football romantic, so for me it is easily the latter. I don't care that C Ronaldo scores so many goals (especially when at least half of them are absolutely meaningless) or has played for a longer time (at a worse level) than the geniuses.
I'd rather burn for a shorter period but twice as brightly, than go on and on and on but never reach the brightness of the others. Quality over quantity.
Do you pick R9 over Dinho? Different position of course but prime Dinho managed to transcend his club more than prime R9 (though Dinho had more stable team).I never said he wasn't. But he's a level above everyone not named Maradona and Pele.
One could argue ronaldinho decided the world cup 2002 more than any of his teammates including R9 who was great too. Just watch the highlights of ronaldinho vs England. This is despite the fact that dinho had not even hit his full prime yetDo you pick R9 over Dinho? Both Joga Bonito players anyway.
R9 was better than Dinho in 2002 WC. @KingLeo10 @RassvetPele is so highly rated because he won 3 WCs and scored a lot of goals but these Santos wins where he they score 10+ goals while he scored 5-8 goals is not relatable to modern football
It's time to exclude Pele from the holy trinity list
So it's only Diego Armando Maradona and CR7, candidates for the third spot are:
Lionel Messi
R9
Ronaldinho
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr
