Saul Niguez

Hard to speculate on "why" if this is true, but another reason for the Pjanic swap being so terrible is that it sets a bad example for other players.
Of course he knows the president changed, but still - if I was a player and saw the way a so called world class player as Pjanic was used I'd think twice before joining.
This is always the case to an extent in swap deals too, and Saul would be completely understandably worried about what his role would be in Koemans team.

Pjanic is a washed up player who runs forward slower than some people run backwards. He's not playing because he's shit. Sure , he should/could have played in more games but Cowman was done with him the second Pjanic came in the press saying that he deserves/should play more.

Source of information?

Pjanic is uttery shit, he looks like he is drunk when he is playing. Busqets is actually faster then him.

I agree with you that he's shit but that is beside the point I tried to make.

Koeman let Pjanic talk shit for a while before he was done with him btw, and Greaseman got to talk shit the whole season and still play.

Yeah , cause he actually contributed with something.

He legit was the reason we won the only trophy of the season (imo).

He also scored some really good goals in the league.

Sure , I wanted him to do more and didn't want him in the first place but at least he's had some impact or at least 100 times the impact Pjanic had.

lol I think he literally got 100 times more pesetas than Pjanic, too.
But this is even more besides the point, both players were a bit terrible for Barcelona I think.

Saul would probably be a good squad option for Barcelona, I hope he isn't scared to come because of Koeman!
But I'll admit that my picture of Saul isn't as clear as it should be by now, I'd have to see him in some games for Barcelona to decide if he could be good for them.

Cuatro | Barcelona and Atletico Madrid agreed on the Griezmann-Saul deal. It remains for the players to agree to complete the deal.

Never a fan of signing a player just for the sake of him being physical. Never liked Paulinho or Vidal really on paper, even though Vidal in particular, was good individually as a player. Always stuck out by disrupting our passing rhythm.

And this is why I am very much okay with Saul. His physical merits are there, we lack his profile in the squad currently in but there are things I like technically in his game now that I would rate higher than say a Paulinho, Vidal or Gomes.

I think he would offer something in the ballpark of what Rakitic did: while I think Raki is obviously a better shooter and a slightly better passer, I think Saul physically overall is better (stronger, faster, more imposing) and is better in tight spaces than Raki. He is decently press-resistant, his ball control is good for a player of his usual profile, and I think that is going to help with his adaptation here. Simeone was always forcing him into wide positions and that is why he started to diminish over time so especially in a box-to-box role here, I think he will be more comfortable.

Only real negative I see is how this could impact Ilaix. He could see this arrival as a massive barrier to his development. But all and all, I see more that I like about Saul here than I dislike. Koeman felt he needed a player like this, irrespective of if I agree with that or not, Saul does allow Koeman to use different midfield combinations and is something truly different in comparison to someone like Pjanic, who is more of the same. He is good complement to someone like Frenkie, for example.

Compared to other players we could have ended up like Gini, this is decent and could be a lot worse.

I think the post above is good and goes pretty much in line with my picture of Saul at this point.
I think Ilaix should be sold for as much money as possible as early as possible though, but I could see Saul standing in the way of Nico...

You don't decline signing good or great players to save spots for some upcoming talents whose time with the A team is years away.

You'd have to think twice about some talents already with the squad, leave alone players like Nico...

Barca must stay competitive, that's the first and foremost objective. And they gotta do it now.

Looking good/bad at Atletico/Barcelona doesn't say much about the future at the other club though. Arda and Griezmann are perfect examples that players can be very good at one team, but bad in the other. Not that Griezmann was really bad, but you get what I mean.

Barcelona's and Atletico's systems are very different. Although I'm not a fan of Saul, I feel that Simeone's style doesn't suit him at all and he could rise in a different system. The positions and roles he gets played in doesn't favor his strenghts at all.
