He's always been a pivot but that didn't stop him from finding himself at CM with Barca B. Roberto is proof enough that Lucho is willing to modify a player's position if they're capable of fulfilling that role.

Right now his main objective is to prove to Lucho that he is not only capable of fulfilling the backup CDM role better than Mascherano and Roberto (Who are already busy playing elsewhere usually), but that he's capable of filling in for Busquets in a way that'd allow us to play some games without him.

As we saw with Roberto, if Samper shows enough ability to get playing time Lucho will allow him to improve and move him into positions where his skills will be useful. He may start at cdm but if he shoes enough playmaking he'll definitely get time at cm.
