I think a large part of Busquets usefulness went when Xavi left. Busi was perfect for Barca then, knew where to position himself and let Xavi and Iniesta move about the pitch, he anchored that perfectly.

But when Xavi left, the midfield changed, we know longer dominated like we used to, he's exposed more than he's ever been. In fact I cannot really remember the last time we dominated a good team in midfield. Most of our good wins have come from brilliance in the attacking trio we were blessed with for a few years.

It's sad really because I'm starting to genuinely forget all the good times. It's similar to how Gooners felt about Wenger at Arsenal, all those glory years seem somewhat tainted after years of disappointment.

Busquets best , and most underrated, season here was 14-15 season when Xavi was on the bench, I would argue that Busquets carried and hid Xavi shortcomings in his last few years more than the opposite. Post 2011 Xavi was really overrated tbh
He still put a good show in 15-16 too.
But Busquets lost a step early, and he is a player who is all about timing, when your legs couldn't put what your brain wants, he was useless. Since Lucho last year he has been on steady decline because of it.

atm, there is no young players to cover or hide him, like Puyol and Xavi had. No relatively young Busquets/Iniesta/Xavi/Messi/Mascherano to hold the team together despite the old farts.

Replacing him and Pique successfully would change the whole dynamics of the team immensely, though if we do it same way we replaced Suarez, our rebuild will take much longer.

He is a dinosaur now and needs to leave or be sold. Lost count on the number of times psg attackers either muscled or blew past him like it was nothing. We already have a terrible defense. Imagine grandpa Busi is supposed to be shielding this back four.

The discussion has been over for about five years now. He should have stopped being a starter in either Lucho's last season or EV's first season. This club continues to make some puzzling mistakes. Won't be surprised if Laporta does everything possible to keep Alba, Busi, and Pique in the team.

And Font with his Xavi's obsession will be better?Laporta had the balls to trust a rookie manager(Guardiola) to get rid of Deco,Ronaldiho,Giuly...but i guess cuck Font is better.

I think Pique will ask out at the end of the year, going to a less demanding team (either retirement league or a team that is more defensive)
He is the one who offered an exit at the end of last year, showed most passion between veterans and decided against surgery this year, for me all indication toward him thinking his time is up.
He is also very smart person off the pitch, despite his clowning acts at time.

OTOH I think Busquets will need someone to tell him he is no longer welcomed in the club, I don't think he will cause a fuss about it as he knows he is 2nd in the coaching line from Barca greats, and new board might be here for next 12 years so no reason to challenge them.

The manager has also say in this. I don't know what Koeman saw in Busquets, other than the limited options for DM in the squad. They got rid of Suarez, but Busquets is untouchable.
