Our current 4-3-3 is a damn travesty to watch.

There's no basics, our Midfield build-up relies on a Zombie Busi, and the other two CMs being relegated to eating crayons and the attackers being so far away from each other. Our fullbacks and the way we use them are also laughable.

I would rather have a CDM that can break up play consistently and make clutch and important tackles and interceptions than a CDM who is hot garbage at all of that but can play some cute passes.

Need to leave the playmaking to the two other CMs.

Yeah but this is Barca. We favor defenders who can't defend and keepers who pass but can't stop a single shot.

Yeah but in a perfect world you will control the ball 90% and face zero shots on target. Why would you need a goalkeeper who can make saves?

That is what Barca is trying to achieve.

I was mostly comparing him to his peak , where he obviously was a lot better on the ball and didn't get the ball stolen from as much as he did tonight.

Yeah, he was a great player in his peak.

Sadly that passed a long time ago. Xavi and Iniesta were also done when they left but they were much better players than what Busquets is currently IMO. At the very least not as big liabilities.

Casemiro was more important and influental to Madrids success since he signed, than Busi was for Barca in his career. And that without any unique skill set, just by being a classic DM and doing the basics of his job.

We would have had more success in our golden generation if we had kept Yaya or got a DM like Casemiro.

Busi was part of what made the golden generation so great. You simply can't have that level of control over the game like we used to with a Casemiro as DM, no matter how amazing Xavi and Iniesta were. Maybe there would've been a simpler way to titles with that pool of world class talent, but watching what may have been the best club team of all time was certainly a joy.

But these times are long gone. Long, long, long, long gone. We don't have that control over anyone anymore, we don't have the tactical and technical edge anymore, we don't have Messi anymore.

And we won't get that back, not anytime soon and probably never. We need to evolve, clinging on old Busquets for years to come won't get us anywhere. We need a new midfield setup because first of all we won't find an exact copy of Busquets and even if we did it may just not work out at all because he was always a player only really functional in a very specific role/setup.

That golden generation lasted 4 years. If the club was proactive and transitioned to something more reliant on physical ability in the early 2010s, we would've won so many more CLs with the forwards we had.

What we were missing from 2012-2019 wasn't attacking power, it wasn't even defense...it was physicality and control in midfield. You will realize that in literally every high profile CL match we lost since 2012, most of them involved completely nullifying our midfield through Busquets (and later Rakitic). Physicality has been an integral part of the game since 2014 and we've been ignoring it thinking we'd rectify our issues by signing Coutinhos, Griezmanns, and Arthurs.

I concur with Catta.

With Yaya still in our team I can see us winning a few more CLs in the early 2010s.

I wouldn't count Griezmann as a weak player though and he did even score for Barca some away goals in CL(which is a huge standard for Barca haha)

Busis part in the golden generation is overrated. He was not the one who made it great. We won the 2009 CL with Yaya instead of him, would have probably won it in 2010 also if Yaya stayed as an undisputed starter. Spain also won the 2008 Euros without him, playing Marcos Senna as a DM.

The only CL we won with Busi being an integral part was in 2011. One title won with a guy who some credit has an uniqie skill set. Pathetic return.

Damn right. This guy is the most overrated Barca player of all time imo.
