Arsenal owners don't have the ambition to win trophies like City and PSG owners. The reason why Wenger is still at the club, wenger is actually a good coach. But change is necessary for clubs to move on and aim for higher. They need a coach like Simeone, Arsenal will stick to wenger until he retires. I am sure of it. I don't think their squad is all that bad.
Petr Cech
Bellerin Koscielny Mustafi Monreal
Xhaka Coquelin
Ozil
Alexis Giroud Walcott
They could have competed for title last two seasons but the injuries came in the way and their depth sucks big time. But this time Arsenal don't stand a chance against United and City.
Alexis is the player with the poorest IQ in modern football.
Giroud is a meh attacker.
Wallcott is a one dimensional player.
Their best player is a choker Ozil.
Their team is for years filled with players who are good, but not good enough for the final step.
You know that feeling when we had Pedro. He was good, but not world class good.
Or Alexis. He was good, but not good in all areas for our level.
In my eyes, Arsenal's whole team is filled with Pedros and Sanchezs.
Very good players, but majority of them lack something special for the highest level.
(Or if someone replies: Alexis is good. Ok, fine, forget Alexis. In general, their team lacks true leaders, some steel mental strength, winning mentality and more players who are of the highest level and not just very good.
Look at Man U. Their players like Depay, Martial and similar were players of Arsenal's level. But new guys Zlatan and Pogba are the type of players which can turn your whole team and turn it from a 5th placed team into a winning team. Not to mention a coach.)
I don't know how long are you watching Arsenal, I am following them since late 90s.
Back then, EPL was like La liga with only 2 big teams: Man U and Arsenal.
It stayed that way until around 2005 when Abramovic created Chelsea. Then EPL turned into a 3-horse race: Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea.
After that City was turned into a big club also, then it turned into a 4-horse race.
Today we have Liverpool and winners from last Season: Leicester.
Today we could buy the alibi that Arsenal is financially poor and that it is hard to compete with Man U, City and Chelsea.
But for years, it was a 2-horse race and Arsenal still managed to win insanely low number of trophies considering those facts.
Back in late 90s, they were with Man U the biggest spenders in England and one of the biggest spenders in Europe (they had Henry, Bergkamp, Overmars, Vieira, Petit, Ljungberg)
Yet, in Wenger's 20 years, they managed to win 3 titles (2 with Goat Henry), the last one in 2004.
Plus, even though they played in a CL for 20 seasons in a row more or less, they managed to promote to a CL final only once.
Wenger's virtues are:
1. that he is trying to play like Barca
2. he believes in youth (even though I am not sure if that is a virtue actually in today's football)
3. he is devoted to his club
If Pep is stubborn and a one dimensional coach to some extent and unwilling to change his tactics, then Wenger is way worse than him in that aspect.
Wenger plays with the same tactics for 20 years.
And these tactics stopped working around 2004, but he still didn't realize that.
I don't like Wenger and his "success". For me, he is one of the most overrated coaches/players/people involved in football in the last 20-30 years.
If he was our coach for 20 years, I would cry every day and I would probably stop watching my club until he would leave the team.
"We will be better in the next year"
"The future is on our side"
The worst alibis ever, imo...
Give me actual results, not "bright future".
