There were already reports of Mascherano wanting to leave because he would like to play in the midfield, he's 32 and won't last too long anyway.

Masche is one of those defenders that get better with age. I think he won't decline until he turns 35. We should keep him for 2 more seasons at least.

He's also reliant on his agility and speed so that decline might come faster, but if he can adapt to that then he'll easily play on for a few more years at this level, or close to it.
I doubt it. He wants to return to Argentina too.

Nobody said it's over for him this year, but there's a big chance he will be out by Summer 2017 either because he wants to leave to play in the midfield or simply as others said, back to Argentina.
A CB is OK till 35-36 anyway, but there were already signs of him wanting to leave this spring, so if he leaves next year or even in '18, why is it such a big idea to get Mustafi in time?

b/c there is no reason for Mustafi to do it.
And the whole he is available for 25M is probably bs.Valencia never sell cheap.he will be 30M+ signing most probably.

Even if Barça were interested in Mustafi and willing to pay 25-30M he'd most likely reject us. He's 24 and wants to play as much as possible so he'll go to a club where he'll be a starter from day 1 or at least have much bigger chances to become starter that than he'd have here right now with Pique as unquestionable starter for at least the next 3-4 years, Masche coming off possibly his best season and still capable playing at top level for a season or two and Umtiti who has shown his great potential in Euro.
Mustafi won't wait for a year or two to see if Masche will decline or leave and now we also have Umtiti, who is a year and half younger than Mustafi and has higher ceilling. Only possiblity of Mustafi coming here would be if Masche would leave this summer (which we know it won't happen) and if we didn't already signed Umtiti. I like Mustafi and would gladly accept him but it would make absolutely zero sense for him to sign with us in this position. And I also prefer to have Pique/Masche/Umtiti/Mathieu over Pique/Mustafi/Mathieu/Vermaelen.
