Shkodran Mustafi

Mustafi is a good player. Last season should be forgotten about each and every one of those Valencia players due to horrible management which probably caused a loss in form for the whole season.

I'm sure even Abdennour is a decent player but last season made him look like a mong. Their current manager is Pako or whatever his name is, no wonder players want to jump ship. The only reason I don't want Munir at Valencia is that manager.. and Lim. Lim is a fucking moron.

Arsenal owners don't have the ambition to win trophies like City and PSG owners. The reason why Wenger is still at the club, wenger is actually a good coach. But change is necessary for clubs to move on and aim for higher. They need a coach like Simeone, Arsenal will stick to wenger until he retires. I am sure of it. I don't think their squad is all that bad.

Petr Cech
Bellerin Koscielny Mustafi Monreal
Xhaka Coquelin
Ozil
Alexis Giroud Walcott

They could have competed for title last two seasons but the injuries came in the way and their depth sucks big time. But this time Arsenal don't stand a chance against United and City.
Their squad is quite good. They just lack someone to motivate them as I don't think Wenger does anymore and they lack a striker who gets them 20 plus goals a season in the league. If they got those...they'd be challenging for the title.

I watched every Gary Neville game. He is their main CB, but still was terrible last year. Honestly there is no point keeping him and turning down 40 million.

Well I see the problem more with Gary Neville, than with Mustafi.

I wouldn't have mind us paying 30m for Mustafi, add the PL premium and end of the window premium and 40m is okay imo. Only CB Arsenal have that could be better than him is Koscielny.

He costed just 15m more than Umtiti.
It doesn't change the fact that I like the Umtiti deal better.

Don't know about that... I like Umtiti a lot but who knows how he will develop in the future, whereas Mustafi is already a world class defender.
I don't think Umtiti is far off of Mustafi as it is, and his ceiling is at least as high. The only thing that would make me lean towards the German is his La Liga experience. But yeah, all in all, as I said above, I prefer the deal we made.

Both have the potential to be starters in a Barca defense for 10 coming years. One of them might be worldclass soon, the other might not. I believe such a decision shouldn't be made by rating them by a 15m price difference, especially for rich top clubs.
In a couple of years you will wonder who is better, not who was cheaper back in the year 2016.

I don't disagree with that, but since - as I've already stated - I don't see much difference in quality between the two added to the fact that the Frenchman's skills seem so obviously suited to Barça, then I think we made the correct choice.

 Fair enough. If you believe Umtiti is the better choice because he is or might turn out to be the better player, than there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I was just saying that for big clubs good transfers should be higher prioritized than good deals, unless they are really that dependend on the money.
