Saw the game. He had some good actions, clearly gifted on the ball but lacking decision making (as you would expect at this age). There was a counter (which the clip above didn't show) where FC Tokyo were 3 on 2 with Kubo in possession and he chose the wrong pass.

He can only grow this season, once his team mates give him more responsibility he will probably be the best player in this side already.

“Physically speaking, he’d lose the ball or get knocked down last season, but now he can move the ball and create turnovers. It’s incredible to think about how much he’s improved in one year.”

Kubo’s physical transformation — this year’s player guide lists him at 173 cm and 67 kg, an increase of 6 cm and 7 kg from when he was registered to Tokyo’s top team in September 2016 — has certainly not hurt his performance.

"There is absolutely no discussion among clubs at present," FC Tokyo president Naoki Ogane said, adding the club had also fielded inquiries about Kubo from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

They were against Timor-Leste, who respectfully, are among the worst teams in one of the worst footballing region in the world (I was going to say the worst but then I remembered the pacific islander countries).

Is this guy barca-material?

He is definitely more than good enough to be a standout attacker at Barcelona B in La Segunda (like Gerry D and Adama were in their time) from the 2 games I watched of him this season. Does that accolade make him good enough for the first team? No, but it does make him a worthy enough to sign back and develop.
