The demands:
5-year contract, 1m per year and a promotional clause. The club is no longer interested.

Doesn't look so outrageous. Too bad the club is more interested in paying huge sums of money for things of the past like Griezmann, Neymar and Rodrigo instead of investing on the future.

Real Madrid will easily promise those and scoop him up, turning Japan from Barca country into Madridista country and raking in tens and millions of sponsorship money.

FC Chokelona, FC short-sightedness.

I agree. Aside from his talent, he is very marketable and is considered to have the potential to be one of the players in Japan's history. I watched all of his games this season and he has been playing very well.

Well-rounded, fast, great freekick, good balance and he is not that short. He is 173m. 13 League games 4 goals and 4 assists leading his team to the top of the table by 6 points. Not to mention the lack of wingers in our academy.

Extremely disappointed.

Being a bit dramatic aren't we? Pipe down will ya mate.

Your post epitomizes everything wrong with the modern Barcelona fan. Throwing a fit because we refuse to give into the demands of an 18 year old kid that would be quite an average prospect at the Barca level.

He isn't special enough to be receiving a promotional clause and that's the probable reason as to why the club backed out. I understand the past month has been tough for Barca fans, but this doesn't excuse losing complete touch with reality. Like a multi-billion euro club like ourselves are desperate for the marketing ability of some 18 year old Japanese kid. In fact if this boy wasn't Japanese and didn't have the hype train of a country behind him we likely wouldn't even be talking about him now.

Rakuten, a Japanese company mind you didn't seem to have any problem with us not having this shiny new toy from their country. "Tens in millions of sponsorship money," what a load of bollocks. And imagine comparing established, world class, global superstars like Neymar and Griezmann to this kid.

By chance how many full matches have you watched of this kid to come to this resounding assessment? How many has anyone from this forum watched for that matter?

What a shocking post. A player with 4 goals and 4 assists in the fecking J-League is supposedly a revelation. Pure horse shite of the highest order.

Doesn't look anything special to me. Hyped up just like that Asian Ronaldo wannabee we had a few years back.

Sonaldo is the only Asian player I desperately want at Barca. Stunning player.

I have only watched him play twice (both for Japan) and he was a breath of fresh air for me. Him being full of energy, always staying alerted and his football IQ were the things that impressed me the most from those two games. Our resident Kubo watcher maldhowayanr has watched a lot of his games and liked him (see his post right above yours) and I have seen quite some people on other forums praising this kid as someone who has very high potential. Does that mean he is guaranteed to turn out to be great? Of course not, but this is the case with every youngster, we need to take our chances when we can, not to mention we are talking about a former Barca player here. From a sporting perspective, I hate to see him leave, let alone potentially leaving for our biggest rival and competitor.

What about Japan? So you think if he was from another country we wouldn't be talking about him? Why? Hype? There hasn't much hype in the first place, at least most Barca fans have not been on that hype. Japan has been a Barca country for a long time and this kid, if he gets snatched by Real Madrid there is a real danger of turning a lot of Japanese fans into Real Madrid fans (the same way many South Koreans follow Tottenham and many Chinese follow Espanyol) and I don't want to see that happening because if it does, it will have a exponential affect on expanding Real Madrid's influence in the Japanese market. That translates into more money for them. What does Rakuten have anything to do with it? It is not their place to voice support or the opposite for any signing. You know something we don't?

If you are in favor of us getting Griezmann and Neymar, all I can say is prepare yourself for the shit that is going to come.

Only issue I'd have is ultimately the promotion clause, money is pointless to debate - we've wasted far more money for far less talents in the B team

He's an excellent talent, would've loved to have seen him return but it is what it is

Promotion clause isn't outrageous, we put it on most B team signings and even renewals. Hence going out on loan in the second year like Denis Suarez and many others. The money isn't outrageous either considering he is starting in the J-League and likely on a wage around that region currently.

Sporting wise is he the next Messi? No, but he is one of the better prospects in his position at his age category, with a ton of marketing mileage behind him. He is also better by a good margin than our La Masia players at his age group so the issue must be something else.

Anti-everything
Don't know anything about him, but if he's a good player marketing wise he would be great for us ( not that we need it) .
Japanese /Korean players are also generally very humble and likable

You mean Lee Seung-woo?
What happened to this guy btw

Went from one of Barca's the most promising potentials=>to playing for Hellas Verona in a 2nd Italian division.

And even there he is not a starter but a squad player.

This is not about EV, but if that kid were still here, fans would yell at a stupid coach (EV or any other random coach) for not giving him chances.
While in reality, there is nothing to develop in this case and he is just miles from Barca's required level.

In 90% of cases, our most promising youngsters will end as players for midtable or 2nd division teams.

Regarding Kubo, he was even less hyped than Lee when they were younger, iirc.
So it is hard to blame the board for not wanting to ruin a wage structure even more due to Kubo's huge wage demands (and a questionable quality for the highest level).
