I'm not even making claims against him or anything, I couldn't care less at this point, but I'm just amazed at how these statements are made, as if he couldn't feed his family and then pretty much never work another day in his life after retiring if he had FCB wages. 
Only PSG-type wages are enough to feed families and "think of the future" now, I guess.

Your argument is valid. But so is his decision. Why would a brazilian who played most of his career not is barcelona, take a huge pay cut to join barcelona ? i think anyone wouldn't. Okay few millions less he wouldn't starve but asking him to forgoe salary, put in a transfer request and come running to us, was a bit unfair.
Had we matched the salary i am sure he would've preferred barcelona.
And here I was thinking Thiago was a smart guy. Both of his sentences are face-palm worthy.

I think it has to do with the romantic idea that some of us seem to have, me included, that if you really want to play for a club, the fee does not matter - you join out of conviction not because of the money.
When I first read that quote, I had to laugh - seriously. As if he and his family were to starve should he join Barca. I's a joke to say something like this and, imo.

Families to feed? Is this guy serious? If by "families" he means the 10th generation of Silva's after Thiago Silva dies, then I can understand. These athletes make millions of dollars, give me a break.
I mean I understand he wanted the higher salary, but why go and say to the media such a stupid thing as that? He could've simply said "Barca didn't match the salary I wanted".
Perhaps his children are living off white truffles, champagne and saffron? Poor chap. I would feel criminal now if we signed him and destroyed the lives and future of a whole family.
