Pep wanted Cesc as he was switching to a 3-4-3. Once he abandoned it there was no need for four top centre mids and even keeping three happy was difficult.

I hope that's true, I know we won't get him, but at least that would mean that board aren't planning to continue with current midfield which is a real possibility with these guys.
