He's better than both Xavi and Iniesta were when they were 20. Let's give him time to develop before making such rash judgements.
Agreed.
It's slightly odd that there are a lot of members here treating Thiago as a finished product and making such allegations as "he may never be good enough." The arguments they back their claims with aren't overly impressive either, given attributes such as movement off the ball, concentration, endurance, passing are half talent and half hard work.
Thiago is still a youngster and has time on his side to improve himself even further. Nobody would probably deny that he is obviously talented, but the rest will come the more he matures and the more experience he gains. He has already shown what he is capable of (f.ex: vs. Vila-real) and he has had a really good preseason too. Patience is the key with him, and I believe both him and Cesc can become a suitable duo for the future.
What comes to comparisons made with Xavi, you lot seem to have extremely short memories. When Xavi first took over in the late 90's / early 00's he was nowhere near the level he is now. Do you remember his first few seasons with us? Do you remember the expectations he had to carry from taking over from Guardiola after the mastero had his last season with us? The fact that some were even considering of selling him to Chelsea at that time is a decent indication of how good he was considered to be back then.
Not to say we can directly compare these two situations, as our team was in a shambolic state during that time. Players were coming and going all the time and there was simply no stability or unity within the team, which made Xavi's situation even more difficult. Now Thiago is surrounded by the best players in the world at the current. This alone with having the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Messi, Alves, Cesc, Alexis, Keita, Villa etc. around him will only make him better as he probably knows what it takes to become a starter at some point of his career.
What I am saying, is that we shouldn't judge the book by its cover just yet and wait for a few years to see whether he can really take us for a ride and whether he has what it takes to run our midfield alongside Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and Cesc.
