Thierry Henry

this incident is not comparable to the hand of god, rivaldo's facedive or zizou's headbutt.

those events all took place AT the finals. this was a qualifier.

outside the british isles this will be forgotten within a year. and within 5 years everyone but ireland will have forgotten it.

Never said it was comparable, it's just how he'll be remembered, although not by everyone obv.

Have to agree with you.

The incident isn't comparable to Rivaldo and Maradona also because those two were blatently deliberate. They both set out to cheat and con everyone. In Henry's case, the ball has lept up and hit him on the hand, and he then gives it a second nudge to control it. He just plays on hoping noone will notice. Nowhere near as bad as those other incidents.

Who's comparing them? They are are separate incidents with different consequences. Henry will be remembered by many as a cheat, rightly or wrongly, which is a shame.

Where does the deliberateness of Henry's second touch differ from Maradona's?

the ball bounced up and hit his hand. the deliberateness of his second touch was a split-second decision to prod the ball back towards his foot.

maradona jumped into the air, raised his fist, and punched the ball over shilton and into the net. way more elaborate a motion than henry's and requiring of more intent (given the extra time and greater movement).

I mean it's mainly semantics, as cheating is cheating, but there's a vast difference between the two offences.

Can we stop discussing this shit for now? We got a crucial CL match coming up & last thing we want is to see an Inter player cheating to knock us out of the CL.

I have a very bad feeling about this one. :(

Yeah because just because of what Henry did last night an Inter player will come and try to cheat in the CL match.
