Transfers and Rumours - old thread

If we go by the rumors, and why shouldn't we, transfer fee wasn't a problem in Silva's case. We already had a deal with Milan early in the summer, but were we to meet his wage demands he would have been the second highest earner in the club. He didn't budge on that front, and thus it wasn't to happen - dribble down effects making it far more costly than a bloated transfer fee would.

That wasn't rumor, his agent said that in respond to the media ,that his wage demands is (whatever number, don't remember it correctly) ,and that was more than anyone in the team not called Messi
but there was no rumor for agreement,I think the team were interested in signing Silva ,but they knew the price from thestart and should have had plan B
May be something like taking the advice of De Boer about Vertonghen ?

...

Euro42million transfer and something like Euro14million per year in wages over 5 year (?) contract. deal would add up to Euro112million. WOW!!!

No wonder we baulked at getting Silva.

Exactly. It makes me furious just reading this Vertonghen rumors now. We could have gotten him on discount price but he obviously had to move to EPL before they took notice of him. I don't want him here now out of principle.
Hummels' case was similar. Openly said he was Barca fan, had an expiring contract... Oh well.

I'd still take Vertonghen, though now he'll be really expensive. He's been so good this season.

Rakitskiy linked again to the club by MD, a player I too have liked for a few years now...Speculation even Pep might pursue him...A lot of things to like about him, quick, strong, nonstop motor & fearless...Rightly or wrongly, I imagine the Cheesuz experiment makes him a questionable risk but they are decidedly different players

Local papers reprinting the Sport Bild story that Barcelona are preparing to formally bid for Matt Hummels...Seems hard to believe considering what is certain to be a hefty pricetag

It is not the first time there has been smoke, though. I don't believe a word that Bild is saying. They have been wrong so many times, it's ridiculous.

Feel like priority is wrong again, if we go for Hummels. Think we should find replacement for Puyol, not for Pique. Hummels is too much Pique for me.

Well, supposedly Hummels is left footed and has played that left side in the center of defense before - albeit, weaker displays than on the right

I just think it'd be mission impossible anyway, he's tied to a longterm contract with a team that doesn't need to sell. He'd cost a fortune
