UEFA Champions League 2014-15

Most people considered you as such until the semi opened their eyes.

People always consider the more recent CL champion to be the best more or less. We had recently won 2 (or even 3 if you go back to 2006) You had won exactly zilch.

People also thought that Bayern was the best team in the world last year until Sergio Ramos opened their eyes.

The team gave off the aura because of Tito's unbeaten streak in the league and the show that Messi put on repeatedly week in, week out. After the remontada against AC Milan, we thought we were going to win it all, but then Messi got injured.

A lot of the teams flaws were hidden by the unbeaten streak in the league and Messi's form.

We had lots of fluky victories that season in the league. Beating Sevilla and Betis away was sheer luck, beating Granada at home with that late Xavi strike was also pure luck, several other games as well. Osasuna away was also pure fortune.

it's all about perception. barca was still perceived as the best team in the world because of the historic 08-2012 years that preceded the tito era. the perception was further compounded amongst the general media because we managed to pull a 4-0 against an above average (at best) milan side. if one took a truly objective look at the 2012-2013 season, then it was apparent we were no where close to the best as we were regularly losing big games and struggling to get past the likes of PSG.

in many ways, the hype about the current bayern side is reminiscent of this. their domination during the 2012-2013 season under jupp has created the perception that bayern is largely unbeatable despite the thrashing they received from madrid last season. the current bayern team is undoubtedly very good but objectively speaking, barca is the best team in the world at the moment.

I second this.

Indeed. The best team in the world doesn't let in 4 goals against Deportivo la Coruna.

I thought that was last year? I totally forgot about that being in 12/13.

Moreover, the 4-0 was way too harsh on us that night. Sure Bayern were better, but there were some questionable decisions by the ref that day, as well as the linesman.

It didnt matter, you would have won the league regardless. Strange, we looked infinitely better than Barca h2h(so did Bayern)yet Barca tied our 100 points from the year before. How no side in la liga, except us (h2h)was able to stop a team with glaring weaknesess is forever a mystery. We were quite crap in the league, i admit, but we wouldnt have reached 100points regardless.

Well we just outscored most of them and were lucky quite often.

Most people knew Barca was a wreck that season prior to those CL semis, specially Barca fans. We had no wins against top sides(Milan was not a top side) plus we had just lost convincingly twice in a week against RM. Not even mentioning the situation with Tito and Messi injury

lol let's not pretend that everyone doesn't have their biases. however, if you can refute my point with results from football matches, you are welcome to do so.

Yeah, that was exactly my point. That's why you can't say "objectively speaking". There are no objective criteria for such a statement. Now if you simply meant it as a figure of speech, as people frequently use "literally", then fair enough ;)
