There is no rule that says whoever wins the Champions League is the best team that year. Under Messi we lost 2 La Ligas since 2008. On our way to make it 6/8. Now that's a true sign of dominance.
It is how much importance you give to a domestic League.
Real was named the best team of a 20th century not because of League titles, since other teams have a lot more domestic titles than Real.
Why Real is (or was, or again is?) a biggest team in Europe is a number of a CL titles.
When 10 or 20 years pass, no one care/knows how the title was won.
Today, nobody care how lucky we were in 1992 when we almost lost before a final (was in semis or qf, with a late goal in a 2nd leg), or how we won with a free kick goal in extra time?
Who cares, we won our first CL in 1992.
Or how Real won titles in 1998, 2000 and 2002 while they were 4th and 5th in La Liga?
Who cares?
That generation will always be remembered as a generation which won the highest amount of CLs in a 5 year period in the last 20 years...
Who will remember in 10 years how Real won titles in 2014 and in 2016?
Nobody...
Who cares today how referees helped us against Chelsea?
Nobody...
We are looking at that year as one of the best years in our history, referees, luck or other factors are forgotten after 2-3 years.
I mean, yes, we were more dominant in La ligas lately, true.
But just imagine Real winning a CL this season.
Or something worse, imagine our team being weaker, older and less motivated in the next 2-3 season, and just imagine if Real somehow wins a CL again in 2017 or 2018.
So, instead of our domination, Real has a chance to create new Galacticos, and in 20 years people will say/think that Real was as equally as good as Barca.
Or that CR7 was as good (at least in CLs with Real) as Messi.
I just have no words currently.
We have Messi, we have Msn, we have the most expensive team which Barca ever have in our history, and f***ing Real is winning CL after a CL lately.
What will happen when Messi will be gone?
I am afraid to even think about it.
