He's had egos and he's fucked them out - Costa, Arda, Alderweirld, Villa, Cerci, even Torres. You could make an argument that more have egos but he's dealt with them to the point that they're unnoticeable. Recruitment also helps in finding the right guys. I'm really surprised Oli Torres didn't go in January too because his situation hasn't seemed to change. Guys like Vietto, Oli, Correa have got to be patient and put it in to get a chance. Thomas has done so and is slowly but surely getting minutes, and he has got nearly the talent of those 3.

He was desperate for Costa and Arda to stay and Alderweild was not an ego issue at all or seems like an ego driven player.

yeah, I was just gonna edit to say "fuck them out" isn't really applicable to all. But Arda and Alderweireld had their problems. Arda by the end not wanting to do so much running, Alderweireld didn't want to wait for his chance to be a starter, which is fair enough. I wondered in the summer with Miranada leaving if they would consider starting Toby, but they were happy to press on with Gimenez and Toby seems to like London living.

We are the best team in Europe when we're on form. Period.

Cholo is the best coach in the world.

He turned Pathetico into the Athletico of today. I don't like his style but his tactical ability, his qualities as a motivator and his ability to create a water tight defence are second to none. Even Mourinho doesn't come close.

It would be interesting to see him at a big club with big egos and big stars. I don't think he would be very comfortable.

He relies on good solid players who listen to his instructions and run themselves into the ground.

This. Thats why he will never go to Barca or RM. Star players want to win by superior skills and not by fighting and running themself to neardeath..

Kinda disappointing performance by Bayern today. TBH I don't even think they were unlucky. Barza vs Valencia was unlucky, this was a poor performance outright.

I read some comment regarding Barcelona and them having their own style and I think now more than ever it is becoming more and more apparent Guardiola was immensely benefited at Barcelona by a core playing style which tends to vary little with additions (and subtractions) or coach changes. Don't get me wrong, formations might change, playing style doesn't.

I also think Guardiola's attempt to bring that style to South Germany didn't completely pay off, not at the big stage. There's one game left for him in Europe, yes. Qualification is still possible, yes; but at this stage of the game it is quite apparent this wasn't a single game where he failed, his entire enterprise coming to the semifinals has been filled with ups and downs and more close calls than any in Bayern's previous campaigns.

Is Guardiola a failure on his first gig out of Catalonia? Surely not. But it was far from the smashing success everyone expected it to be, as premature as this post might be.

atletico out run bayern by 5 km.. we got out run by 12 km or so .. yet bayern had lore possession than us.. this is me calling out those who claimed that the abysmal difference in running is due to possession.. koman and costa put on a lotta work in the wings with dribbles and penetration.. kudos to both teams for this great match of football .. and remember kids .. efforts win you games and atketico are the living example.. orgasmic high pressing at the start of the match

Yup, about the running point - You have to admit, Bayern came a lot closer to scoring than we did. From the moment the second half started, they were all over AM, while we waiting for the last few minutes to even look like we care.

Bayern worked a lot harder than us, but they were still not able to break down this ridiculous defense. You have to still give them their due where they worked hard and tried, something we were unable/unwilling to do.

Bayern blew chances

Costa should of done better. Atletico are amazing though. 29% procession and still win. Best defence in a long time

Don't listen to the guys that try to justify "why Cholo wouldn't make it at any other team". These are mostly haters. They remind me of the stupid EPL fanboys stating that Messi wouldn't score as much in the EPL or that Barca wouldn't be as good. Now people try to do the same hating on Simeone. This guy has turned a pathetic team to an almost unbeatable monster. We're not talking aesthetics here, for this, AM does not have the budget nor the right players. But having a solid defense is the key to winning. Look at this team, everybody knows his job, everybody tries to help his team mates. Any mistake in a defensive 1on1 and you see another guy covering for them. To do this, you need tactical discipline, motivation and team spirit. Simeone did a great job and I hope he goes on to win the CL, although I doubt he can win it against RM, maybe in 90m but not in 120.
