True to a certain extend but most good defenders would not constantly be making badly timed tackles, be out of position nor would they get beaten for pace by everyone they face these days. This guy is a liability and has been getting away for it for far too long because he knows his position is untouchable

He switched off for the penalty/red card incident. Even though it was Demichelis that had to try and track Messi.
