Rooney is better than Mata?

Quite comfortably. If Mourinho gets his hands on Rooney he'll give Chelsea 30+ goals and 15+ assists next season. Mourinho is the master of motivating these kind of players anyway, especially after Moyes' recent statements.

Man United are daft if they turned down such an offer. Not far off the Zlatan/Eto'o deal you's guys paid.

Mata is easily one of the best players in the EPL, was IMO the best player last year and Mourinho is crazy offering him and £10 million.

Hes not the same player he used to be, constantly physically unfit and lost his hunger he does not want to be here anymore. As long as RVP stays fit i would take a younger Mata with a sell on fee if needed over rooney for the CAM position any day of the week, especially if it adds + money for a midfielder.

The only worry of course is if as you said they get him motivated and fit, final piece of the puzzle and all that.

Chelsea release a statement confirming they made a bid but fully deny any player was added to the deal, saying the stories coming from Australia(United are there) are lies. The wording is strange.

What's funny about that? Rooney is 27 and needs only 53 goals (about 2 seasons) to become Manchester United's all-time top goalscorer. Who is Mata? Some second rate Spanish bench player who VdB didn't even call up to his squad 12 months ago.

Rooney produced the same amount of goals and assists in the Premier League as Mata last season despite playing one of his worst ever seasons and Mata playing one of his best, playing gazillion games more. lol

Yet nearly every Man United fan on redcafe are saying they would be stupid to turn down such a deal and Mata is worth more than Rooney. But hey some guy on Barcelona forum is right and everyone else is wrong. Wayne Rooney is a god of a footballer who's ten times better than Mata and if he goes to Chelsea will suddenly get 45+ goals/assists in one season.....

As for the lies about the EPL stats, Mata scored 12 and assisted 12, Rooney had 12 and 10. Mata made 8 more appearances, but let's not ignore Rooney plays further forward for United and Mata often dropped deep for Chelsea whilst he had to supply for Torres and Rooney had RVP. But hey I don't expect you to grasp that claim going by your previous comments, next you will be comparing Luiz goalscoring etc with Rooney.

Many great players don't start for Spain.

Incredible vision and great passing ability. He had 21 goals and 29 assists last season. That's not hype, that's a fact.

Mata is anything but hype, he's a fantastic footballer, you're underrating him. Who cares if he is slow, Theo Walcott is fast and is an average football. As said by mixed Mata is technically brilliant with excellent vision and intelligence and adds end product.

Some people are too obsessed with pace, strength and work rate, no wonder you are wax lyrical over someone like Montolivo and downgrade a world class played in Mata.
