Who should replace Valdés?

Who should replace Valdes?

As good as Hummels is, he is not leaving Dortmund. He's one of the best CB's in the world right now and their captain. Plus they are trying to become European elites so they aren't gonna sell their star players especially since they don't have to. Plus i'd like him to stay at Dortmund since they are a respectable club and he is their beloved leader. Marquinho's is my ideal CB transfer.

I'd rather get a proven world-class defender. Hummels would be perfect, but I see your point, he'd be hard to get. Subotic maybe?
If that Marquinho guy is cheap, I suppose we could offload Bartra or Muniesa (probably the former) and get him to be a backup and potentially a future starter. But for right now, we should go for a proven world-class defender.

Subotic is a good option but i don't think Barcelona have shown any interest.

I say push hard for Hummels, and make Subotic a plan B if it just isn't happening. Either should pair nicely with Ter Stegen since they share a language (I'm guessing Subotic can speak German). Better for the goalie to be able to communicate well with one defender than none.

I'm not watching the game, but I hear that De Gea is making an amazing performance against Spurs. Anyone watching?

Yea he did do really well. To be honest though i'm kind of warming up to the idea of ter Stegen rather than de Gea. de Gea makes some great saves but they are mostly diving saves and parries. Plus he is rather weak in the air (which could cost us in Clasicos or in the CL). ter Stegen is tall, strong, and extremely well rounded. He can jump over defenders to punch crosses away and can actually catch the ball from shots or free kicks rather than parry it away for our defenders to clear it. He has a commanding presence and keeps his defense organized and focused. Plus he has amazing confidence which de Gea lacks. He gets mad at defenders even if they let a shot go past them (which is a really good quality). Plus he can play with the ball at his feet to some level and when he does go forward as a sweeper keeper he isn't as reckless and stupid as Neuer who charges up to the opponents half. If he can get the language down then he'd be perfect for us.

It will probably be Reina or De Gea. Ter Stegen is the best young keeper around, but it seems like Barca doesnt rate Bundesliga players or doesnt scout them that much. Plus the spaniards speak the language. I think De Gea
might be too risky given his many fuckups on crosses, Reina is a solid, experienced goalie, so at least not a downstep from Valdes.

Holy shit he sounds fucking perfect for us, besides the fact that he can't speak Spanish obviously. Still though, from what you're saying, I'd much rather have him than De Gea.

Barca have been reported to be interested in Ter Stegen, though we've been reported to be interested in de Gea as well. Not too many reports linking us to Reina. I hear Reina makes a shitload of mistakes, so I'd much rather not get him. From what I've heard about all 3, Ter Stegen seems to be the best option to me.

Barca have been linked to ter Stegen in the past and recently as well. However Reina is too old and error prone to be a long term replacement and that is what Barcelona is looking for. He doesn't seem good enough. de Gea is a likely transfer but i agree that he is missing too many aspects in his game. He can make amazing acrobatic saves but is weak in every other category. ter Stegen is best with maybe de Gea/Perin as second choice. If Barcelona try to go for a really cheap option (which would be sad), i'd say they'd go for Krul or Stekelenburg.

Ter Stegen would be awesome.
Still young and our coaching staff can mold him to be a better keeper... maybe...

euleri from twitter offered an interesting perspective about Ter Stegen.

If we assume that Victor is staying until 2014 and then leaving on free, we could get a young goalie like Ter Stegen for #2 this summer. He could use a transition year and being mentored by Victor - to learn how to be a #1 for the next season.

Very important in this case would be to learn from Victor himself, because nobody on earth could teach him better what to do. This sounds like a good plan
