Not really.

It's harder to beat Japan or Maroco than beating the Netherlands.

Like I said, both Spain and Germany would have swept them, but found it hard against good mid low compact blocks.

Argentina were better but needed penalties to win against the Dutch.
Argentina would have found it much harder against Japan, and IMO they could never get past Marrocco.
Simple as that

You also thougt France are over rated and Denmark would best them.
Thought Germany were one of two favs before WC started.
Claimed Canada would win group.
Claimed Spain were one of two best sides 'due to xG'.

So what you think matters fuck all when are as clueless.

Simple as that.

Spain and Germany were both atrocious.

One didn't even make the R of 16, and the other were toothless as they come v Morocco.

No.

Spain were very good, top4 team in the tournament, and Gemany were easily QF material at least

You have to be able to think beyond results
Japan and Marroco were super hard to break and the games of all top teams against them is telling.

Simple as that.

Some teams like Denmark were a shadow of themselves from a couple of months back.
Some teams like France the opposite: a million times better than themselves couple of months back.
Hard to make predictions, and only idiots hold on to predictions made before the tournament began, while they were such cowards themselves to not make any

On the contrary, since the tournament began, we have seen teams, how they play, what they can do.
Spain were a top-4 team to say the least based on their games (which xG reflect), and only a very compact low block like Marroco could eliminate them.

Likewise, predictions since the tournament began matter more, and some idiot claimed a couple of days before the game that "Portugal will beat Marrocco easily"
we saw how that went...
That normally should make someone humbler, and less arrogant, but no

Haha Birdy.

Canna lie.. I was shiting myself Portugal may win the fucking thing. Old classic.. predict worst so wrong or happy.

Keep the predictions and weeping about the top sides that could only beat Costa Rica.

Suits you.

Argentina beat better teams than Spain and Germany did. Simple.

Poland, Mexico, Australia and Netherlands... vs Costa Rica x2.

France as said from outset are favs as most complete side but the future....only god knows.

Dest was good though eh! ELITE!

Poland were an atrocious team, probably on same level or only slightly better than Costa Rica

Japan were better than all teams Argentina played, better than Mexico Australlia, and would eliminate the Netherlands in a knock-out
Needless to say that Marrocco is many times better than all of them combined

Keep simping

Poland are better than any team Spain or Germany beat.

Spain and Germany are not top sides and only managed to beat Costa Rica.

Argentina have beat Poland, Mexico, Australia and Netherlands.

Simple.

Haha all you have left is to massively over rate Japan... txtbook.

Japan beat Spain and Germany then went out next round....no mention of Japan being decent until mental gymnastics.

Croatia did what Spain and Germany couldnt...

Easy win for Croatia tomorrow then. Back them big.

I am not trolling, a question for guys who follow Messi lately: what is the state of his stamina?
He has played 5 matches in 20 days.
And this will be his 3rd match in 8-9 days, and he played 130 minutes 4 days ago.

In his last years at Barca he couldn't string 3 matches in a row with running.

I think Argentina is built around the fact that Messi lights up sometimes, rarely, during the match. So I don't think it's so important whether he's in top form or not, in the sense that he can always do those 3 or 4 "switch on" per game regardless of his stamina. The thing you should fear is whether those very ones are decisive or not. Anyway, I see Croatia clearly favored. Would you say the team is much less strong than the team you had 4 years ago?

I am not overrating Japan you numpty
Your logic is of primary school, if X team beats Y team and Y team beats Z, then X team is better than Z team
LOL
If you are as old a fucker as you claim to be, and have watched so much football, you should be able to understand why this is NEVER the case in football

Japan is a very solid team against top sides and hard to crack.
Harder to beat inferior sides, that's why they lost to Costa Rica and couldn't beat Croatia.
Same is Marroco, who are embarrassing top sides, but could not win against Croatia.

Croatia, on the contrary, had played only 1 game against top side (vs Brazil), where they were battered.
Play this game 100 times and Brazil wins 99 of them based on the same performance we saw.

Same for the shitty sides you namedrop. Poland, Mexico Australia could never get a result against a top team UNLIKE Japan and Marroco.
Get it?

You are over rating Japan you numpty.

Simply because they beat your 'top teams' who could only beat Costa Rica.

Haha Birdy logic... Croatia beat Japan and Brazil but are not a 'top team' that title is reserved for those great Spain and Germany who could only beat Costa Rica.

Top stuff.

Goooooooo top teams! You win the TOP TEAM award at this WC for fantastic contributions to xG.

Well deserved.

Japan are a 'tough nut to crack' and Croatia are shite/lucky.... mental gymnastics of the numpty who wants to preserve the idea that Spain and Germany were 'top teams'.

This team is weaker in attack and lacks Rakitic.

But on the other hand, it has more experience, know how, self belief.
And zero pressure.

If we lose, ok.
Our main goal was round of 16.
We are already preparing their welcome, a party and a national holiday.

On the other hand, the pressure of the whole country is on Argentina.

Not really...

I don't fancy the Croats, this is an aged and declined version of their 2018 team, and they didn't deserve to be here in the first place, Brazil battered them in the QF

I don't fancy Argies either, and Messi in particular is dragging this NT behind with the dependency on him and the imperative to play at his oldy pace.
Argentina, unlike Croatia, were better than all teams faced and deserved to be here.
But it's unfair that they might reach the final, and still haven't played a top team (an England, a Spain, a Germany, etc) in the tournament.
Another joke of the format and the luck of draw and bracket

Dragging the Argentina NT like he dragged Barca who are now flying without him. Damn man.

Edit: we don't even need to speculate about Argies performance without Messi. Just check all the qualification games, for any competition, ant year, when he was missing for some games and check again wen he went back.

Argentina is the clear favorite and should win this match. Tbh Croatia shouldn't be in the semis, Brasil battered them and somehow lost after penalties. Playing negatively, defensively on penalties eventually backfires. And like bbz said, this Croatian team lacks firepower in attack to seriously hurt the opponent's defence. It's truly a shame we won't see the south american derby.

Has been answered many times, but you pretend on purpose you didn't hear the answer, as a good fanboy that you are

Any team that has been geared to play according to the needs and characteristics of one player, will obviously be worse if you suddenly remove him.
It's not rocket science

But that proves jack-shit about how good a team could have been had it been CONSTRUCTED differently from the outset.
Same applies to the miserable, depressing Barca post-2016 when the was 'carrying' the team

So you are implying that this Argentina team would do better without Messi? Even if the trained and were given sufficient time to readapt their gameplan without him

Short answer, yes
They have a bunch of very promising young players (20-25 age group) that could have played much better football if they were not instructed to play at pace 0 so that the game goes through Messi's legs.
