BBZ, what do you think of Messi's WC so far, in terms of performances?
For a player you thought was the WOAT and worse than Braithwaite, he has been the player of the tournament in terms of classic dribbles, classic assists, and big moment penalties (scored 2 v Dutch, 1 v Croatia).
Maybe the big teams are favored over smaller teams by a decent bit (I actually don't argue against this much, at NT or club level) but the referees aren't the ones dribbling multiple players and making assists like Messi did v Holland or Croatia
Part of our issue on footballing matters has always been that you're unreasonable and only take black or white (binary) positions. You've committed to the "corrupted WC" narrative and while that may be true to some extent, you're unable to separate that narrative from genuine class performances by players. Instead of embracing the possibility of the latter (like I embrace the possibility of the former), you double down on the former and never admit you were wrong on a given football assessment
Messi plays very good.
BUT... his team was pushed in almost every match at 0:0.
He was never in a genuine 0:1 situation where he is usually sulking.
But the same is happening with Portugal, France etc.
And this Messi vs CR7 internet debate is exhausting.
I can't open any video, twitter post or article without billion internet managers from Africa, India and similar explaining how either Messi or Cr7 is better than the other one.
If you say something against Messi, people accuse you to be CR7's fan.
CR7 is done and horrible. Who cares about him?
And lost of his CLs and Ballon D Ors came from the same reason: marketing, brand of RM and CR7.
Look, EPL is not rigged. When Everton plays Aston Villa, who cares?
There is no difference in money earned for English FA and in shirts sold.
But the top level of a CL and a WC is really annoying and rigged AF.
Regarding Messi vs Maradona and WCs, Maradona won it in a cheating way.
So, that shouldn't be counted as Maradona's pro versus Messi.
If Messi wins it this year, be prepared for eternal accusations and a denial from other camps (CR7, Mbappe) that he won it by ref's help.
Yet, if Mbappe wins it, he was helped twice by the refs, lol.
So, it is dumb and pointless either way.
