Xavi is an all time great player who was considered by many the heart of "Barca DNA" during Pep days.
Never mind being an all time great for Spain (maybe even the greatest)

He is entitled to have an opinion about the way of playing even if unproven as a coach.

That's not what is about, of course he is entitled to have an opinion. He spoke like a fan, not like a manager IMO. He has nothing to gain for commenting in a bad way about Atletico's style. Say he loses the match by 2 goals. Ends up looking like a clown.

Not a big deal in the end, but he should dribble these questions and not get caught by them. That's what these journos expect, some controversy and easy headlines to type as soon as they get their hands on a laptop. 2-3 comments like that, and it gets transformed into "Xavi ridicules Atletico and Simeone's style".

Simeone:

“Years ago Xavi said that Atl?tico de Madrid’s style was not for big teams. Now he will have the opportunity to display what he wants and imagines, since he has new signings and eight players available for his front-three,”

“When a person has only lived with one situation in his life, he doesn’t understand other situations… What he thinks (Xavi) is very respectable because he had the opportunity to have lived huge successes at Barcelona,”

Not to mention that Atletico is a team that is capable of playing poorly, but at times also very well, with high intensity and commitment. Making sure to fire them up by dishing their style pre-game is not smart in any way.

That's some disingenuous shit from Simeone

I think he dissed then in 2016 and that's how it came up and what Simeone is responding to. Not sure though.

Xavi has requested the signing of Jules Kounde. In addition to a top-notch striker, the coach considers that signing a world class centre-back would give Barca a humongous boost in quality. [sport]

That's the stuff I like to hear.

I don't love it. Isn't his buyout 80mil something? Don't see him as dominating CB like Dijk. He lacks size.

Not someone you want to splash world record amount

Kounde is so overpriced for the price being demanded though. He is a good player but Barca can probably be smarter with their defensive reinforcements than just spend big on him.
