The left will be somewhat of an issue whatsoever. No way to fix it right now irregardless of setup.

Not really a 4231 either, but its all fluid anyway.

The only way to fix width on the left is to go to a actual 4231 or 433, the way xavi currently plays with his 4 in Midfield isn't any of those things.

The LB provides the width, which is why he is so big on a defensive RB, although you need a more attacking one just to have options.

He really plays a almost true magic square.

4-2-2-2

If we adjust it for the position of the fullback when playing it's

3-2-3-2.

At moment it is closest to a 433/4231 just that in posession Gavi comes central to give Balde the width.

Kounde is stll asked to get forward at times and does it from wide. Just isnt comfortable doing it.

Just stuggle to see what Xavis plan is as cant see him seeing Gavi as not in starting 11.

Also Balde for all his good parts struggles with width a lot in possession as he is poor at crossing the ball from deep. curently and needs to improve. but on flip side he could actually be a great third CB/LB type due to his pace.

Could play the role Ake played in midweek a lot better as just has that raw pace vs wingers.

Not that he is but if Xavi wants to mimic Peps formation currently then Christensen would be the Stones and play RB/DM and Balde would be the LB and then left CB of a three when defend.

Kounde third CB on right and Balde on left.

That is always an option.

Knowing the injury history of Ousmane and Pedri, Gavi and Raphinha gonna play a lot of minutes in midfield and on the wing.

Messi, Carrasco come in.
Sure, if we are gonna bring a quality right winger to replace him.

Doesnt have to be all that much quality really as he has not shown all that much despite some goals

Carrasco in and Raphinha out as cant see how Raphinha lines up in a Messi team and without am attacking RB.

I am probably in the minority, but if Messi comes I would keep Ferran. Can do a job on the right and won't generate much money either. Raphina should be rather easy to sell for 60m. Ferran, Dembele+Messi is plenty on RW.

Use them to bridge the gap to Yamal coming of age (in an ideal world).

Completely disagree. Ferran is by far the biggest flop of this new board. Needs selling fast.

Messi, as people said, is best as a 10 / second striker, not on the right. And Carrasco is a left winger, so not sure how he factors in.

I mean he would be like 3rd choice... plus he's a decent runner off the ball, so should benefit from Messi (same would apply to Raphina though).

Messi does not play on the right. At Argentina Di Maria played on the right. Last time Messi played on the right for us he left a huge blank space there.

Factors in as unlikely Xavi goes Messi and two wingers.

Wouldnt be surpised at all if Carrasco better on right than Raphinha has been either if need to use him there.
