When has the right personnel his 3-2-2-3 is beautiful to watch AND effective.

More shrewd signings need to be made to improve depth, especially in midfield big time.

Don't bring Messi back. He's not what we need even if he'd improve the team, we can make better improvements.

The physical level of this team compared to the rest in Spain is brutal, we can press for almost the whole game and we have a lot of speed and intensity, strength. That is why we have such good defensive stats, we apply so much pressure to the opponent and prevent their buildup.

Messi is just -1 in defense and would have a ripple effect on the whole system. We'd score more goals but the defensive loss is not worth it when we should be looking for younger players who bring attacking benefits without the off-ball walking.

Would be in favour of not bringing Messi back if it means we can get a legit LW and Vitor Roque in along with presumably Gundogan.

If the end result is some run off the mill LW and a shit CF backup either way then for all I care bring Messi on.

First option would be preferable as that way we improve the team significantly on paper and football might be a bit more enjoyable again. Also not creating a potential structural mess that way.

With the second option football would still be uninspiring with the results mostly being the same in Europe so might as well bring on Messi for one year for some entertainment and a send-off.

Well, that, and that every single team(except us) shoots wide or straight at your gk when ever they are inside your box, no joke.

And to be serious, just explaining your defensive stats down to plain luck makes more sense than anything else, you concede big chances every game.

Now, your team will suffer defensively with Messi next season, but honestly, you wouldnt have conceded much more this season with him in this team than not, because again, there is this "aura" surrounding you domestically.

Cant wait until Xavi is gone, none here may like him, because he makes the team play "bad", but its better to be lucky than to be good.

Just get a coach that can concede goals against non-RM teams, will you? Thanks.

I agree with you that it's hard to explain and it annoys me a little thinking about it because I can't work it out, I imagine it is the same for @Birdy, it just doesn't make sense how these chances keep being missed but there must be a reason other than luck because it is a constant. Not just variation or we would have conceded a few at some point.

Our underlying numbers are good, but we also hugely overperform those, leading to a historic level of defense so far. Maybe our hard pressing system tires out the opposition such that they struggle with the ball, or the fact we deny touches in our half a lot leaves strikers 'cold'.

As we get our players back, (although injuries are no excuse, sorry de jong), I hope to see us score more goals and win the league with a bit more style in the next 8 games.

Injuries are no excuse.

Funny the folk that quote 'four key players' are the ones that think there is in fact nothing between Dembele and Raphinha or FDJ is massively over rated etc.

Yet when they miss out folk claim it is 'four key players' injured.

Usual.

Four players have not been missing anyway bar home to Real when Barca got turned over 4-0 in worst home result v them since before Pep and had plenty of players who even with those missing should be better and team was set up terribly.
