Truly depressing to see him climb off the world stage in this manner , he is worthy of more!
What will become of Barcelona now with Valdes ,Puyol and Xavi gone (and Cesc.) and Busquets playing like a shadow of his own self.
It seems wee need to fill up alot of positions now to compete. Ok we bought Rakitic , a player that doesnt impress me much and a guy that i didnt think would become a starter for Barca, so we definatley need to do a big signing both in CB and a CM.

Valdes, Xavi & Puyol all deserved a better send off-both with Spain and Barca.

Xavi is on of the greats and the greatest Barca midfielder off all time imo. I feel we should have kept him on the bench this coming season and given him the send off he deserves.

Who says that the club are the ones who want Xavi to go? It's easy to say that we should keep him but Xavi himself plays a role in this saga as well. I believe that he doesn't feel ''fit'' anymore to help the team on the highest level. He is a Barca legend and an icon and there is much pressure laying on his shoulders. He is 34 now and maybe he is not able to play under Lucho because of the fitness level.

I hate the board but wouldn't blame it here unless there is something official which prooves the contrary.

If Xavi decides to leave this summer, Barcelona will pay him a 4M settlement. The player has a contract for two more years. [sport]

What the hell, Xavi himself decides to leave (break his contract), and Barca still would need to pay him a settlement? What kind of arrangement is that? I guess Barca will let him leave on a free too, instead of of asking 10M+ or so to the Qataris?

That would only makes sense if the club was forcing him out... not if he decided to leave. Strange.
At least nothing of the sort was rumored about Puyol.

Xavi is owed a lot of money for the next 2 years. I think very close to €20m in total. By Barca terminating his contract and allowing him to leave, giving him a settlement of €4m, Barca are actually saving a lot of money in salary, while at the same time helping a club legend to make it easier for him to go to a new team unhindered from transfer fees and able to get a large salary in return.

The club is doing right by them and right by Xavi.

That makes sense. I didn't think of it like that.

If they mutually agree to terminate the contract I don't see how giving him €4M euros will make it easier for him to join a team. The 4M might be a nice present for Xavi but there's no need for it if both parties agree to a transfer, being Barcelona and Xavi.
He would be a free agent then, no transfer fee necessary and the clubs could offer Xavi whatever they'd like. We did that with Marquez as well.

There is no transfer. Both parties are agreeing to terminate the contract. For Barca they save a lot of money on salaries. For Xavi, he gains freedom to go where he pleases unhindered by needing both teams to agree to a transfer fee. The €4m is just to terminate the current contract.

It is a good deal for both parties. Both sides part amicably, in good terms, and getting something in return.
