Apparently Mancini's influence played an important part. From the reports he contacted the player and told him he will be an important part of the project. And looking at Liverpool squad and compare it to Inter they have several wingers while Inter has only one: Podolski. Shaqiri was one of my priorities for the wing and I'm glad the club managed to pull this off. Now let's see how it goes with Lucas Leiva and Pablo Osvaldo.

For 4-2-3-1 Mancini needed wingers. Inter had none. That's why they got Podolski and Shaqiri.

No I don't think the rumored price (15-18m) is much for a player of his quality in this inflated market. Great deal by Inter. Reports say Liverpool even came out with a last minute 20m offer but Shaqiri's decision was the difference maker.
