I don't think Yaya is seriously angling for a return and perhaps I'm being naive that it's not a negotiating ploy for an improve contract at City - but, admittedly, it also could be the reason
It's an interesting point of contention among culés, I can see that now - the question of how an exited player's legacy lives on...Meta et al could be right, and Yaya was always about the money and gave the illusion he wanted to stay etc. or it not being about Kolo...but it could also be that it was a confluence of several mitigating factors...I think it's harsh to brand the player a gloryhunter or money whore because he gave great service here but took money to play elsewhere...If he were Pep or a Catalan cantera player, it's a different story...But an African player who never had a big payday?...I think it's excessive to lampoon praise for Yaya as a consequence
Nevermind that no one knows for certain the circumstances...It could also be that some of the facts already supported what he's already publicly said - that his precipitous drop from the starting XI coupled with a freeze out from Pep...Not being able to play regularly enough, that's not really a guess - it's backed up by the stats...Not wanting to take a backup role, that's his perogative, isn't it?...Plus, as strange as it sounds to all of us, we've already seen several examples of players having accused Pep of freezing them out (Ibra, Bojan and Samu) so why is that conclusion less likely than him using the club?...Did Yaya tank it at the club?...He didn't disparage the club, had praise for Tito, consistently praised the club but took a shot at Pep...I'm more inclined to see what the evidence supports combined with how the player has always carried himself...I mean is there anything about the way the player plays or acts off the pitch that screams money whore?...You can say that about a lot of footballers these days but I don't see it with Yaya
