Yaya Toure

but we need a physical player in the mid as it brings balance to all the midget we have on the team. his header presence alone on defensive set pieces is far superior to badger boys heading. i understand mascherano will move the ball quicker and give us possession faster which could be a good thing but i think the physical presence in the mid is needed for us to be successful.

with all due respect, dude, I trust pep's opinion over yours.

true, but peps opinion would have had us bring over adebayor over eto last year so i dunno, i think he is trying to get rid of everybody from the rijkard era barring of course the great marquez :D

to be fair, coming off his awesome 07/08, adebayor could have stepped-up big time. and physically he's even more complete than samu. but we've had this argument before. it's irrelevant anyway as I wouldn't change a thing about last season.

I m sure Pep has a far better idea than any internet people, but the whole thing strikes me as very odd. Having seen both players numerous times in the last 12 months, I cannot for the life of me fathom what Pep sees that Mascherano could bring to the side. His stye of playis reckless in the Premier League and he gets booked lots. Refs are a tad stricter in Spain, so he would be booked for almost all of his clumsy, high, mistimed tackles.

Let's debunk this strange myth shall we.

Mascherano 07/08 Yellow cards premier league 6 Red 1
.................08/09 Yellow cards premier league 6 Red 0

This is not much considering his role in pool, Rooney a forward received more cards the last two seasons.

Still I don't want Mascherano to join us

I think Pep wants a technical team, he's getting rid of all the beasts lol. He wanted Maxwell as a backup, probably didn't expect Abidals form.
Ibrahimovic for Eto'o. Eto'o might not be the beast of them but he lacks technique.
Now Gayscherano for Touré. I don't know, I trust him, I'd put my head for him but I love Yaya. I mean, he's perfect for us.

^ Which is utterly crazy. Toure was arguably our best player in April and May last year. Showed his heart, versatility and guile. Why waste €20+m on some fucker who does not know how to challenge, can only play in one position, not very well might add, and will be sent off at least twice a season when we already have someone who has better all round attitubtes?

Wow, I'm a huge Yaya fan, but you just made Mascherano looking like Motta or someone like that - "can only play in one position, not very well might add".

The argie is a world class DM and he's one of the few players out there, who could be good enough to fill Yaya's shoes, IMO.

Of course, it doesn't mean that I want to see Yaya leaving, because I rate him really higher than anybody else, but if he do leave - I think we couldn't get a better DM than Masch.

or could it be because yaya doesn't read the game as well as mascherano, yaya doesn't block runs and passes as well as mascherano, yaya doesn't close opponents down and pressure opponents as much as mascherano, yaya doesn't (always) recycle possession as quickly as mascherano?

This is a subject of personal opinion, too. ;)
I've always rated Yaya as a great passer, which maybe comes from his previous experience as a CM, before joining us. Sometimes I even think we're wasting a bit of his talent, putting him as a backyard dog out there. You're oftenly giving Yaya a hard time here, but I thought you'd give him a credit at least for his ball skills

do you guys think that yaya will get more playing time after he comes back from ACN?
cos all this while we assumed that pep was grooming busquets for yaya's absence.
although busi didn't disappoint but he is still no where near what yaya can give to us

I think he will. Busquets was played too much lately and we lacked some calmness in bringing the ball forwards. Villarreal and Sevilla caused us much headaches.

yes calmness is the perfect word!!
and when yaya is playing, it looks like we hold onto the ball for a few more seconds
