Yaya Toure

Toure was always a saint in my eyes, and a damn well better option than Busquets. When he was getting regular playing time, he was able to start @ CB for us in games that he had no business to be doing that. I would really like what it was that happened between Toure and Pep that went from Pep having such absolute faith in him to him being sold to City.

well you don't need to wonder, it's obvious to see.

watch the first half of the season, and watch his stagnant lifeless play stink up our midfield. conversely watch busquets, who made things happen. good and bad, yes, but he was dynamic, he hustled (where do you think the "are you not entertained?!" thing started?) - both got a very similar amount of minutes, busquets just edging ahead due to yaya being ill for a week, and only busquets did anything with them. in the second half of the season, with the CAN and yet more poor form, yaya lost his place to busquets on a more regular basis. deservedly so.

there are two people to blame for this situation, and that's yaya and his agent.

you yayaistas...

team above players.

Yeah it's great business for us but if it helps you get Cesc then it's a good deal for you guys too. I know you all love Yaya but you still have an awsome squad (best in world football for my money) so it's not all doom and gloom for Barca fans.

I actualy think a lot of our signings have been good value for money.

Given
Bellamy
Kompany
Zabaleta
Barry
De Jong
Tevez

All have proved quality signings imo. But undoubtedly the City have made the best calue signing for a long time in buying Adam Johnsom for a mere £7M. He's is already an amazing talent and imo he will be one of the worlds most exciting and gifted players within the next 5 years.

Yes, he will be an excellent addition to your side if it goes through. Ill be looking at City next season to see how Toure gets on.

you didn't watch our games last season irv?

I saw every game last season, and I saw Pep play Toure sporadically. in 2009 when Toure played consistently the man was a force of nature. And that's the key; Pep did not play him consistently. How many times did someone ask why Pep didn't Toure when lineups were announced in the Forum Chat?

well, he did play consistently in the first half of the season. when you're giving a chance you need to take it. as i always say;

the name on the crest is more important than the name of the back..

Henry... he gave up on us.

Toure was clearly preoccupied and therefore played bad at times because of it but I never felt he flat out gave up.

City are getting hooked up and I feel like we are getting played on this deal.

team above player. absolutely agree. entertained? from the DM position? I don't want to be entertained from that position. I want to know that when Dani or Abidal or Pique bombs forward that a competent, capable DM will be able to cover the exposed position ... not a DM who 'entertains'. Sergi Busquets is not competent, although he is capable from a talentwise perspective. And what is this about it being Toure's fault? did he rip Pep publically about his lack of playing time? or did his agent? I've always advocated killing Toure's agent, cuz they are all about the player who hired them and the chance of getting commission from a xfer fee/new contract. But we're talking about a player who was our best player in 2008 and played through a hernia. In 2009 he was the man that made us sleep the night before the CL Final. and for goodness sakes, with the system that FCB plays I am absolutely terrified of Busquets being the DM. good grief. tactically and logically this defies sense.

it never reached henry levels, but henry was abysmal so that's hardly any barometer.

and tbh yaya's did come dangerously close to henry-levels of apathy in the derbi vs. espanyol. and tbh I think that was the nail in the coffin. to show that little passion in a game of that importance... nah, not havin' it.

Agreed and although id rather have Toure in our side, it has to be because he is hungry and 100% on his game. If his mind has wondered elsewhere, then that is a shame but id rather cash in.

Fair assessment but I would counter that he wasn't given the fairness in selection that he deserved, and quite honestly earned...Busquets should rarely be ahead of him in a squadlist

so he was our best player when we were shit.

superb.

he's had a year of underperformances, and his agent has spent this year blaming everyone but yaya and doing his best to engineer and exit from the club for him. well, congratulations, because it's succeeded.

and tactically this makes perfect sense. I've been over this one hundred times (and this will be the last time I do it) but yaya is a sweeper DM who is NOT suited to the collective pressing game pep likes to use. busquets makes things happen (entertainment was a joke, irvin) and is aggressive in his pressing, which is why he is suited to playing DM for us.

you say he's not capable. but the selection policies of pep guardiola (1 CL, 2 lligas, 1 copa del rey, 1 spanish supercup, 1 european supercup, 1 club world cup) and vicente del bosque (2 CL, 2 lligas, 1 spanish supercup, 1 european supercup, 1 intercontinental cup) say different.

and look, ultimately he's not going to milan. or inter. or chelsea. or united. or arsenal. he's going to city. he's taken the coin and good fucking luck to him. that's obviously what he and his agent value the most.
