I keep repeating this but Eto had one really good season, and even in that one he was accused of missing way too many sitters. In hindsight he is praised, because it turns out no one else is a better fit anyway. What often looked like mediocre was actually really good under the circumstances.

Hmm, well, I don't agree. He was injured during a couple of seasons (incidentally when we didn't win the league) but apart from that he'd always produce, especially in the league

The biggest reason the expectations of Ibra was so ridicolous* was because Eto was widely concidered this "normal" striker, that unfortunately missed way, way, way too many sitters.
Xavi+Iniesta was so dominant, the striker just have to walk the ball into the net. Sometimes, Eto succeeded with that.

So of course, a player like Ibra should easily score 50 his first season, right? Turns out though, Eto wasnt really "normal", he was pretty awesome. And playing striker in Barcelona was not easy, it was insane.

* I guess the transfer price didnt help.

He was way better than he was treated, not only in Spain but maybe even more so in the rest of the world. But that probably goes to every player after him as well.

This year it makes atleast some sense to compare stats between Messi/Ronaldo/Ibra. They all play in pretty superior teams and meet a lot of teams like this.
