Also somehow he doesn't really seem like the type of striker to be effective as a sub or in rotation. Not in the supersub mould of player.
He's very consistent physically and tactically.

You can't decide who the best strikers ever are simply based on how many goals they have scored.
Lots of better strikers than Lewy have scored fewer goals. We live in an era where goalscoring has exploded. Lots of the guys on these lists played in this era.
He will never be as good as R9, Muller, Van Basten, Romario or Pele (if you consider him a number 9). Plus others.

He is a rung below these guys. Those guys you quoted are the best strikers of all-time. Lewa is amongst them but more on the periphery of top10 than firmly inside it.
Legendary striker, just lacks a little on the creative side to be a top5 oat. As you correctly point out there are a lot of goalscorers around in the modern era. His work is more 'replicable' than the very best of all time.
However, being top15 or 20 is still generational and more than enough.

It's endless cycle bro
All we want from him is goals. He can't give good general play, okay. But his finishing needs to be there.
When he delivers a good finish, and in a crucial moment we hope he'll continue to do so.
Then he usually drops off again. Hopefully this cycle ends soon.
All I want from him is not to be wasteful in crucial UCL games ahead. He can lose the ball, get bullied, whatever.. For his age I don't expect him to be perfect

Muller was the quintessential poacher with not a lot to his game though? Van Basten's and R9 had no longevity due to injuries. Pele doesn't belong in this debate.
If you are a striker, you must score goals, unless you are a false 9 and that responsibility is divided among other attacking players. Judging strikers by goals is not the same as judging midfielders by their G+A. Ultimately football is a game where a team that scores the most goals wins and that is the most important skill for a striker.

Strikers are mostly ranked by goals scored, so I really don't get the first paragraph. As you can see, you will be hard pressed to find more strikesrs better than him, and throwing Pele in the mix... c' mon..

Never disagreed with any of that.
I never disagreed he's in the top 15. My contention is that he was a top 15 striker ever but is a liability now, who can still produce the odd good moment.

Depending on his/our performance in CL it could even be him who wins the BallonDor.
I get the sense that voters will prefer to credit him with one than Yamal or Pedri, who have a lot of time left on the clock.
It is between him and Raphinha most likely in that scenario. It also shouldn't be ruled out that one of the two wins it even if we lose the CL.

it's actually a myth that Muller was just a poacher - he dropped into midfield a fair bit and did defensive work. Don't believe those myths.
Who cares about longevity? R9 and Van Basten were miles more talented than lewy.
You're right, but a striker can facilitate wins in other ways. Look at Firmino - he didn't score goals but he maximised Salah and Mane. Either way, it's too simplistic to rate number 9s by goals scored when some number 9s have much more to their games than others.

Goals are very important for a striker, but there's a lot more to strikers than that too. The fact you don't understand that is alarming.
Pele played as a number 9 for a decentpart of his career so not sure what your problem with that is.
