Read that too but I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from that - might as well be good ol' Gerd with some damage control. If Barca is interested and when push comes to shove and Barca makes an offer, I don't see Eberl or vom Bruch putting a spoke in ter Stegens' wheel.
What might happen though is that they ask MAtS to allow for a bidding war in an attempt to ramp the price up.

Yep, if Gladbach gets 10 mil there are more than enough keepers available. Zieler has a 7 mil buyout clause and guys like Trapp, Baumann, Mielitz etc should be within reach. If all else fails, they still have Blaswich in the B squad who's quite decent too. If they can't find a decent keeper in Germany then all hope is lost.

Honestly, those 10 mil would be a joke for such a talent, even though he's only got one year left on his contract.

He already played for the NT and has regained his form from two seasons ago, while only being 21 years of age.

I think it would be more then that, even if it's "just" in bonuses.

BTW: It's not that easy to find a good replacement for him.
Zieler sucks(no one knows why Löw keeps calling him up for the NT), Trapp won't transfer from Frankfurt to Gladbach, Baumann(my favourite) just resigned for five more years and Mielitz is a joke that not even Bremen fans want to keep in goal.
The best option would be Niklas Bolton(not Blaswich), who's currently playing for the under 23 team, if the club wants to go the cheap route.

Though, it seems like we might be interested in Yann Sommer(Basel) or Roma Bürki(Grasshoppers) if ter Stegen transfers to another club.

I see where you're coming from with this. The problem is that he's worth more than ten million to Gladbach, but the market says otherwise. On top of that, talent is a direction the player may take in the future, a prediction with a tendency at best and therefore it's difficult to put in numbers.

The points I listed earlier, such as NT experience, international experience on club level etc are easier to put in numbers and make the lions' share of what constitutes the price when judging from a sportive perspective only. These points could be relativized of course upon closer inspection, but that isn't how it works.
Add to that that there are doubts concerning a young player in general, such as the question whether the player is tolerant to pressure, or whether or not he can be acclimatized without much hassle or not. These factors are incertainties and the benefit of the doubt usually doesn't fall in favour of the young player.
I'm aware that there are clubs who override these principles and splash borderline insane amounts of money on young, talented players but Barca seldomly does so and even more important, they should not do so.

Taking all this into consideration, I see a base price of 9-10 mil which could/should be enhanced by performance dependant bonuses of 1-2 mil.

Improvin' Perfection!!
9+6(in bonus) should be just about right

bonus includes a clause on his number of appearences, one on the number of years he stays at Barca(like the one we had with Villa which would increase his wages if he stayed here for more than 3 seasons) and the other on number of trophies he wins here... IMHO the second should be included in all the transfer deals that includes a young prospective

Contrary to previous reports, Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen (21) has no buyout clause of 8+2M. [rheinische post]

ooooooh . . . Noooooooo

Hah the Borussia lawyes probably cancelled it somehow so the club can actually make a decent coin on Ter Stegen being sold. 8 mill would be a disaster. Barca is going to be raped for at least 16 for this goalie.

Barcelona closed today pre-deal with Monchengladbach and Ter Stegen on his transfer. Sports director Zubizarreta travelled to Germany. [rkb]
