Mats is a better keeper than Valdes, better rounded and just as good at 1v1. Valdes was way more prone to brain farts.

Barca Valdes is easily class above Barca Stegen. You have a very short memory if you can't remember how many times Valdes saved us in 1v.1. Not that that's most significant feature of Valdes who commanded the backline better, was better in air and better shot stopper. Mats has only his footwork and that too he overuses and brings danger.

Valdes was awful in the air. Flapped at crosses damn near every time the ball was in the air. Even in that final season when he was in god mode he found himself in no man's land as the ball flew over his head every game.

What is this? I am pretty sure he is the most composed goalkeeper with the ball, considering how often he has the ball it is very impressive how little times he has fucked up. No idea which goalkeeper could suit our style better than Mats.

First of all he isn't composed with the ball. I mean he is and tries to be but he has made a lot blunders trying to be composed and passing to a CB instead of just clearing it and that is just the times he has cost us. He makes a lot of errors that luckily don't convert to goals always. Even in the last match for example he had a brainfart by rushing towards alba only to retreat at the last moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if tonight he single handedly saves our ass by making 3 impossible saves and I wouldn't be surprised if he brainfarts and let 2 goals in as blunders. This is the best way I can summarize mats. If i take the case of for example de gea and neuer, then it would be surprising if they make blunders and not at all surprising if they make some wonder saves. For mingolet it would be surprising if he makes wonder saves and not surprising if he makes blunders.

No way is Mats better than valdez. He has given some really good games but a lot of average ones. Has let in a lot goals that could have been saved if not for his freezing. Bravo and valdes were both better than him but its obviously to soon to judge. This is about their performances only. Ability wise its a much closer race though.

MATS always tries to make difficult passes to show his passing quality and this sometimes results in unnecessary dangerous passes.
He also waits too long on the ball as he enjoys attention and invites the opponent players to come forward and put pressure on the defense.

Ter Stegen has made far less blunders than Valdes did.

Valdes fucked up a few classicos from horrendous errors.

He was consistent towards the end but Ter Stegen is a better keeper now than Valdes was across his time.

Valdes costed us a SuperCup against Real Madrid entirely by messing up with the ball at his feet. But yeah, I'm sure you felt soooo much safer with him in net.

MATS has less blunders coz valdez enjoyed a longer career here.

Mats needs to be more safe as he often gets into trouble. Valdez brainfarts were different. Most Mats brainfarts can be avoided if he doesn't try cheeky passes and risky options.

No, Mats isn't a better keeper than valdes even if we remove blunders. Valdez was better imo.

Nothing to do with length of time. Valdes made fuck ups more regularly and in big games.

Had hid up side as well and last few seasons even allowing for those errors was a good keeper but Ter Stegen is better and makes less mistakes.

It's like you don't remember Valdes at all. The guy literally costed us a trophy by being risky for no reason.

Mats is cold as ice and precise when paasing the ball, i cant think of a better quality as Barca keeper to have and he surpassed valdes in that department. "better in the air" well they both suck tbh. 1v1 theyre both quite good. Commanding the backline well i wonder if Puyol had anything to do with that. At the end of the day in this moment in time if you had a young valdes and this mats to choose from, i think most would go with Mats- a much more solid GK. Valdes was great no doubt, under appreciated and unfairly ridiculed sometimes when he so often saved our asses, but id still pick ter stegen.

Had few nice saves I think but still got exposed as a coward again at that corner. I guess he will never learn to command his area.

Buffon has problems lately with Spanish teams, but also bad luck. In CL Final he conceded two goals (Ronaldo & Marcelo) because shots were deflected.
Today Messi's first goal went through the legs of a defender and was perfectly placed. Messi's second goal was impossible to save, the same was true when Messi hit the post. Buffon made a great save of Suarez' shot, after Messi's feeekick.
